Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Can you name one benefit that would be derived from doing this, especially as compared to giving Toronto a special administrative status?

Apologies as the quote did not quote well.

I meant I would rather have St Pierre et Miquelon over Turks and Caicos. The thinking was proximity to Canada.

Nobody gives a **** about SPAM. At least with the TAC, Canada would have its own tropical territory for vacationing!

Remember when one of the first legislation Mayor Premier Doug Ford passed when he became Premier in 2018, was to reduce the number of wards in the City of Toronto?

I still have a hard time thinking that he's actually Premier, of all the folks. Someone pinch me awake from the farce.

The Trillium has an article out today highlighting the fact that the 11,000 number the Liberals are using on their bus is not even close...Their staff seemed to have get the numbers from CUPE who has since acknowledged the number is wrong.

Worth the entire read...but I'll put a snippet below.

And here's Ontario Health's own data:

Ontario adults who died waiting for surgery, by year

Ontario Health tracks data of surgery waitlist entry cancellations due to patient death

Edit: +Caveat: even those waiting for surgery did not die necessarily because of it (I could have died because of old age while waiting for cataract surgery)

I wonder if they'll keep it on the bus...

It's clear the Ontario Liberals were caught offguard by the early election call, even though the speculation was rife since last fall. Their messaging just isn't getting through. They've gone all in on the crumbling health care system but if Ontarians cared that much they wouldn't have given Ford a majority in 2022.

Housing affordability is top of mind for everyone but seems the Liberals are relegating it to a secondary issue, even though their housing plan has been widely praised as forward thinking. The Ford campaign would've had ads ready blasting "New Deal for Housing".

Still no candidate in Toronto Centre.

With the election date only 20 days away, I would imagine ballot printing is imminent.

Edit to add: I found the deadline on the Elections Ontario site:

2 PM (Eastern Time) on February 13, 2025.  is the deadline to submit your candidate papers to Elections Ontario.

I think blatant vote buying right before an election is outrageous. We're not some tin pot banana republic.
...yet.
To be fair, I am surprised Doug Ford did not just walk around handing out $20 dollar bills to everyone.
Don't be silly, Doug Ford doesn't walk.
The only reason why i started buying bourbon is because the LCBO jacked up the price of scotch to insane levels. You can't buy decent scotch for less than $100 at the LCBO. And the selection has gotten smaller. When it comes to spirits like cognac, scotch, Tequila the LCBO selection is extremely poor and expensive.

I noticed the LCBO is stocking more cases of beer now ( all macro swill) That's taking away space from Canadian craft beer. I joked to the guy stocking the shelf, i said too bad they couldn't replace these cases of Molson crap with craft beer. He just rolled his eyes and walked away from me. If i wanted cases of macro beer i would go to the corner store, grocery store or beer store.
Some grocery stores have a decent selection of craft beers.
But the Bud and Coors we buy here are 100% made, produced, watered down and bottled/canned in Canada.
I get my Canadian water from a faucet for free.

A family member just received her cheque -- it is made out to her maiden name, which she hasn't used since her marriage in 1977!
I saw elsewhere that this is happening to a number of people. The theory is that it is because it is linked to the SIN number which generally remains in your birth name. Apparently the cheques are clearing for some people, but if you don't, you can call in and have a new cheque issued with your current name.

ETA: Looks like the Star has covered this: https://www.thestar.com/news/ontari...cle_5f6b35fa-dfed-11ef-8b8b-b319f0143aff.html

I would sign the cheque as per the "pay to the order". Then endorse it to the correct name for deposit.

If a cheque has your name misspelled, when endorsing it, you should write the incorrect spelling of your name as it appears on the cheque, followed by your correct signature underneath; essentially, "correcting" the misspelling by signing your name properly below the incorrect version
So if the cheque is payable to "Jane Doe", you write the endorsement signature with the incorrect name "Jane Doe" followed the correct name "Jane Deer".
