Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Yeah, I was thinking that Doug couldn't do that even if he wanted to.

But that's not going to stop him from trying. I remember the time before his brother was diagnosed with cancer, he would project his ideas about healthcare and was all in favour of the US system. Once his brother was diagnosed he quietly shut his cake hole and let the system take care of his brother in an expedited manner as they would do with any patient who was so desperately ill. Two tier healthcare doesn't work, as many people cannot afford the additional fees a specialist would be able to charge. So again "for the people" just not "the folks" or "little guys"

If there is one thing that people from all parties generally agree on, it is not being like the US when it comes to health care. Does Doug understand this? Lots of PC voters very much appreciate being able to see a doctor or get a surgery without a crippling bill at the end of it all.

Mr. Ford has said he had “zero influence” over this hiring.

Toronto police Superintendent Ron Taverner, the Ontario government’s choice as the next commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, met with Premier Doug Ford multiple times in the months leading up to his appointment, including a dinner with the hiring official who vetted Supt. Taverner for the high-profile position.

Yup - why should anyone be surprised - considering what his bro said even while he is on public payroll (and later on, on public healthcare):

Ford also said he was a fan of “two-tier” health care.

“I’d be a Republican if I was down in the States. I don’t believe in all this public-funded health care, we can’t afford it,” he said. “If you want health care, you pay for it. It’s going to cost you guys a fortune to put in Obamacare.”

After saying he didn't interfere in the hiring process, Doug Ford to @nathandowner1 today: "Nathan, if I wanted to, I could make you OPP commissioner. It’s a political appointment."

UPDATED: Ford says response to OPP commissioner selection 'blown out of proportion,' adds that it's a 'political appointment'.

"One day after The Globe made a number of inquiries with Supt. Taverner and others about the dinner Ford attended, all photos of Supt. Taverner were removed from the golf club’s website."

From link.

These were estimated LRT completion dates, as of spring 2009:

Ottawa providing funds to extend preparation work for the new French University in Ontario.

Also offers 50% of cost of new institution and to front-load some operating costs for the first year or two.

Ford government in response would seem to be non-committal. Though the response might be read as 'let us think about it'.

Officially it was we are not going to commit any funds to this project while it remains on hold.

But no word on how long it would remain on hold.
