Blame your city Councillor for not pushing local projects or a masterplan, IMO.

I'm not a fan of my local councillor, but it becomes a systemic issue when population projections used by Planning to project services/representation are, what appears to me, deliberately skewed to favour certain areas - and not others, to ensure those favoured (read rich) areas get more representation. Not much a councillor can do.

The stairs in the park issue is an indication of how bad the local councillor is for that ward. Great councillors push the city to get work done and take citizen suggestions into account. Generally speaking, the suburban councillors are conservative and tend to worry about taxation and cuts rather than try to get any investment into their wards beyond subways or road repairs. Parks, community centres and libraries are considered socialist entities. Other councillors are more effective at leveraging developments to get stuff built into their communities. A good example is John Filion. He represents Willowdale/NYCC and he has a super populated ward and yet lots of new parks, community centres and daycares are being built with Section 37 funds. In addition he is pushing for the Yonge street streetscspe improvement in the area. One may not agree with his politics but he is a strong councillor for his area and does a lot for the community.

An added wrinkle is that the school boards now have to play catch-up. As the TDSB is limited to 22 trustees, a ward boundary review is now necessary. Three trustees will be representing 3 wards each now, as the trustee boundaries must align with council's. I suspect that downtown trustees are going to be given more people to represent with their pittance of a salary.

The integrity commissioner's investigation has centred on allegations that Di Ciano has benefited improperly from personal and business ties with Etobicoke-based developer Dunpar Homes Ltd., as first reported by CBC Toronto last May.

In an emailed statement to CBC Toronto, Di Ciano wrote, "you are categorically mistaken about any notion that the integrity commissioner has referred her investigation into my conduct to police.

"To the contrary, the commissioner has in fact referred this matter to authorities on information I brought to her," Di Ciano wrote.

"I provided the integrity commissioner several months ago with information I was concerned constituted a criminal act against me," the email reads.

"The information I provided had nothing to do with my conduct."

The councillor says he has the evidence to back up his claim.

We shall see.....

Russ Ford ran against Mark Grimes in Ward 6, and Russ Ford, I don't think, is interested in running again. Di Ciano won with nearly 55% of the vote in Ward 5, with no close challenger. Without a quality opponent with name recognition, Di Ciano is as likely to stick around as long as Mammoliti has.
