Ottawa Transit Developments

Agreed.

Quebec seems to have near zero long term planning and vision for what its transit should look like outside of Montreal.

Personally I think the feds should be responsible for NCR interprovincial transit because having a bescope ottawa and gatneu system seems so stupid to me when both cities effectively are one.

Its like if waterloo regions had three separate ion systems ending right at each other's borders..dumb
One weird and very annoying quirk is that Presto and and Gatineau's Multi card are partially interoperable except in the one area where it really counts, which is being able to originate a trip on the "other" system. So you can use your Presto to transfer to an STO bus, but if you don't have a second card you still need cash or paper STO bus tickets for the reverse trip. So it's really most useful for commuters with passes, because if you need two smartcards in other use cases it makes the benefits of interoperability mostly redundant. I suspect this is because Ontario and Quebec don't trust each other to give each other write access to their respective systems and/or don't want to deal with paying each other.

Some intense sparking on the LRT overhead in Ottawa:

OC Transpo reported a stopped train on the LRT Line 1 tracks at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after it observed “arcing on the trains” as well as damage to the the overhead wire system between Hurdman and Lees Stations.

“These impacts appear to be related to the severe weather event,” Troy Charter, interim general manager of OC Transpo, wrote in a Wednesday evening memo.

Seriously...

I know the icy rain was relatively intense but did we not spec transit in ottawa to handle ice accumulation?

Is something like this common in other jurisdictions?

Considering how overbuilt the OCS is in Ontario vs. France, you would think it could handle ice accumulation... Maybe the money for extra wires and masts was for form and not function...

It may be something more than just weather. This incident and the previous time both happened in the same general area, where the line travels near than over the Rideau River. They mentioned that there's a micro climate here that makes the freezing on the lines worse than in other spots

Maybe they need to consider something different here
