OLG Toronto/GTA casino proposal (where to put it?)

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums.

I'm sure this was probably brought up a bazillion times by this point, but personally I'm interested to see how the casino proposal for the MTCC plays out. The blocks around that area of the city don't really have a lot going on for it, and it is from what I recall supposed to be a privately funded project.

OK, but it's not like casinos are the only way to re-invigorate an area, if they do so at all. There is plenty of debate about it.
 
It appears that there may be enough support on council to pass the casino. Some councillors could go either way but enough of those are leaning for the yes. Only a select few are really vocal against it. I think it'll pass.
 
Actually, I was surprised to find Pam McConnell open to it. KWT seemed negative towards it in earlier council meetings but she also seems that she can be convinced if Toronto gets the kind of financial cut that is being talked about by OLG. Her ward includes the EatonCentre, that could lose business if a massive mall opens in the Convention centre/casino.

That isn't quite what happened...

The Executive Committee has authorized the City Manager to conduct public consultations across Toronto, and to report on the results of these consultations, along with more information on a recommended location, alternate locations, revenues generated from the recommended and alternate locations, and hosting fees.

The above report will be brought to Executive Committee in Feb/Mar 2013, and likely to full Council the following month.

The final decision on a casino in Toronto is thus still a few months off at a minimum.

McConnel is corrupt and spineless.. She's okay with it cause it won't be in her ward, she'll receive brownie points for agreening, and will receive a handsome envelope. It will also impact her residents, the ones in jamestown the most...

How about a little spelling and syntax with those unsubstantiated accusations of corruption? Who's McConnel anyway?
 
Add the name of Wynn Resorts Ltd., to the list of casino companies interested in Toronto.

The Toronto Sun reported company chairman Steve Wynn visited the city three weeks ago and explored several potential casino sites, including the Toronto Convention Center and the Canadian National Exhibition grounds.

The province of Ontario is considering approval of a single hotel-casino development for Toronto, which is Canada’s largest city. Ontario recently unveiled potential gaming location across the province, but Toronto has the largest footprint, with up to 5,000 slot machines.

Las Vegas Sands Corp., MGM Resorts International, and Caesars Entertainment Corp., have explored the Toronto market and have met with local government leaders.

“The news of Wynn scoping out the market is not surprising,†said Union Gaming Group managing director Bill Lerner. “At this point, most of the major gaming operators are taking a look at Toronto. Given Wynn’s success in developing resorts as well as its strong balance, the company would certainly be a formidable contender for one of the licenses.â€

The city of Toronto on Nov. 5 will submit a staff report that will include possible sites, and social and economic impacts of gaming in the area.

“The general local sentiment for gaming in Toronto has been mixed,†Lerner said.
