Natives are Restless

Exactly. Even if though the government changed, it's obligations descended to its sucessors.

I wonder if Native land activists can be the urbanists' allies in countering sprawl. Right now it seems many of the landowners on the fringes of sprawl in the GTA are willing to give up land to developers as quickly as possible, and have little attachment to the land that they own. Giving these lands over to anti-sprawl (even anti-development) native groups that have greater sense of attachment to the land might be what's needed to stop sprawl in the Toronto area. (I'm just throwing this idea out... I really don't have a lot of idea what I'm writing about.)

In other parts of the world peasants and long-time landowners who have developed a sense of attachment to the land are the people who are most strongly against sprawl, especially if it is encroaching on their land. In China, for example, numerous violent riots have occurred in rural areas where peasants fought with the authorities who are trying to take away their land for suburban developments.

Nah. They'd pave it over faster. It's not about land, it's about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Casinos, man, casinos. If we may stoop to modern-day racial stereotyping...

Yes. First Nations People don't use it to describe themselves, and it's the worst sort of racism to assume the power to define or name a group.

AP you truly are a lawyer hey! Almost as much BS as a politician.

I have many a native friend out west. People that really care about native issues like land rights and compensation and the current state of native affairs. They often refer to themselves as Indians. Maybe you should hit the road and spend some time on a reserve for a while before speaking up for others.

You assume I haven't. False assumptions will get you into trouble.

Yes, assumptions have gotten me into trouble before. I'll take that chance here.

Nothing wrong with casinos, in moderation they're a lot of fun, and provide good economic benefits to the native populations.

One question...why are casinos closely associated in our minds with natives, can't anyone open and operate a casino?
