More Lost Toronto in colour

^ It will be a good day when that suburban warehouse-style Staples gets demolished for a more sophisticated development.

Yeah, though that day will be a LONG time coming; they're building another type of "big box" style retail space of some sort right up against that Staples at the moment.

Is this Yonge and Gerrard?

yes it is--Bassels was a toronto institution back in the day. the building is still there, unfortunately the owners haven't been able to secure decent tenants in years. is basically been housing fly by night cheapo clothing stores for the past 4 years or so. with Aura across the road this may become a very prestigious corner. it would be great if it the building was home to a good restaurant again...

Does the Big Slice count?;-)

Though yeah, it's suffered from increasingly ghetto tenancy, and maybe the proximity of the Yonge Street Mission and Covenant House (and some kind of provincial youth-services offices upstairs) hasn't helped matters. (Keep that in mind as a counter-factor to "the Aura effect".)

Signage used to be so cool decades ago... big bright lights, neon. Now everything is a cheap backlit plastic rectangle.

BASSEL'S interior was built by TORONTO REFRIGERATION - Sidney Kowal, president.
