Montréal Transit Developments

Both TTC and ML need to look to Europe to see what they do it for times not only at stations, bus stop and on vehicles to inform riders when x will be at y along with connecting routes. This includes the next 2-3 vehicles. Some systems have count down clocks saying x will arrive in z to the second.

Montreal is on the right path, but the time needs to be higher at riders eye level, not the advertisement.

On the inside of vehicles, there are displays showing how long to the next stop, but at least 3 stops beyond it as well to the end of the route. They display connecting routes for the stop to the point it will display the times for those connecting route as a new screen as the vehicle approaches the stops. Not that hard to do.

All heavy stops needs next vehicle info not like some TTC shelters showing real info as to arrival time, but also any delays info.
 
For what it’s worth, at least the underground Metrolinx Line 5 stations will have next train arrivals displayed at the street-level doorways.

Something the TTC should emulate…
I very much doubt, that despite the original promises, that Eglinton (and Finch West) will be achieving a 6-minute maximum frequency off-peak.

YRT does pretty well with its in-vehicle wayfinding, TTC on the other hand, not so much.

Yeah, we need way better information displayed inside TTC vehicles. Hell, once you're on a streetcar, there's no on-board reminder of which streetcar it is/what the terminus is. On the 506, for example, its fine, but it is a problem on the 504, since it has the A & B routes. Just having a screen somewhere that says if the streetcar is going to Distillery or Broadview would be a huge quality of life improvement.
 

Livestream of the REM inauguration today, by Rail Fans Canada.
They noted it's fast when accelerating and cruising, smooth compared to the Ottawa Confederation line, very quiet (at least on the inside, there have already been complaints about its noise from the outside) and that it runs a bit faster than cars on the Champlain bridge, even without any traffic congestion. The train bypassed intermediate stations for the press ride.
 
Congratulations Montreal!

It's quite interesting that Pierre was at the opening of the Montreal Metro and his son who became PM was at the opening of REM. Maybe they will continue the trend and Justin's son will become PM and could be at the opening of Eglinton.

HFR (as they're a bidder) he said he proposes different services (frequency for normal service and high speed)


The Laval REM line is under planning, some plans were posted on another forum but it was not discussed officially. I'd assume that would be a major TOD and development related line.
