Mayor John Tory's Toronto

Tory's true colours finally bursting out after bubbling for awhile. Sometimes the Red Tories and the Blue Liberals are one and the same.

Note how he uses the power outages as an excuse to privitize in order to"raise capital". Citizen groups will need to start organizing and coordinating with union members and city councillors to stop this.

Interesting notes (no idea if it's true):

John Tory Watch ‏@JohnToryWatch
John Tory went to a meeting of Bay Street elites where a table costs $1000 & hinted )wink )wink he plans to sell them some of @TorontoHydro

John Tory Watch ‏@JohnToryWatch
John Tory has three (3) siblings who are BIG TIME players in financial services. Today he let folks know he wants to sell TO Hydro #topoli
John Tory Watch ‏@JohnToryWatch
John Tory advises one of Canada's wealthiest families on their investments (Rogers) Rogers uses Toronto Hydro's poles. but there's more

John Tory Watch ‏@JohnToryWatch
Bell who John Tory lobbied for as mayor also uses Toronto Hydro's poles. So Bell + Rogers + John Tory = No Conflict. #topoli

Of course you also have the Thompson-owned Globe and Mail psychologically preparing the public to the selling off of Toronto Hydro:

Selling part of Hydro isn’t madness. It’s just common sense. It’s the most attractive asset, for investors, that city hall has on its books. Hydro needs investment so that it can bring its aging equipment up to scratch. There is no special reason a public company should deliver the electricity to light our houses. Private companies send us the gas to warm them and no one thinks twice. Regulators monitor the price regardless.

What about all the money the city raises every year with now only development charges but all the units that come on the market and each unit pays property taxes. Where does that money go.

I wouldn't even be mad if Doug Ford clobbered John Tory come election time. I can sympathize with people who'd for for Ford over Tory. John Tory embodies everything that people hate about politicians. John Tory is the quintessential politician. John Tory needs to go.

Having just read though roughly two months worth of tweets from that twitter account (plus a few others)... there is so much going on behind closed doors that the public is not being told about. So many pals, so many ties to business interests who are influencing decision making at city hall under his leadership.

So side from the hydro selloff scheme, here is just a small sample of some of his other sleaze. Apparently tens of millions of dollars in tax deferrals go to John Tory's private golf club. He refuses to reopen the controversial Beach Restaurant contract, which involves CARA, which he was a director for 2 decades. He used taxpayer dollars to buy thousands of twitter followers and set up websites to promote smart track and tax increment financing. Speaking of smart track - which primarily benefits developers outside of the city - the same consultants and academic heads who created smart track and publicly praised it during the campaign were later hired by the city to study it. John Tory helped backroom fast track a mega condo development at Yonge & Bloor without the local councillor on board, and voted to approve townhomes next to a Metrolinx rail yard against strong opposition from Metrolinx and city staff. He sided with business interests and First Gulf developer when he pushed for the hybrid gardiner scheme, which was also strongly opposed by city staff and actual facts. He supports screwing king streetcar riders during the film festival because his sister happens to be on the TIFF board.

The list just goes on and on. But one more thing we should be concerned about: potential efforts to gerrymander the new ward boundaries may be in the works, in an attempt to reduce political power of central Toronto. A situation that could be cemented into place for the next 4 election cycles. You can read more about it in these series of tweets. So when he says that "we don't need any more politicians around here", what he really means is that he would prefer not to add several wards downtown. Anyone who things that John Tory is above such politics just needs to look at the composition of his executive committee.

John Tory's poverty reduction program in action.
  • More than 13,000 low-income Toronto students will lose nutritious snacks
  • A significant number of public health staff positions eliminated
  • A reduction in mosquito larviciding that could increase the risk of people getting West Nile virus
  • Forced closure of crumbling social housing units
  • As of today, privatization of Toronto Hydro is now on the table

I have to admit, I'm disappointed in Tory. I voted for him and I think in his first year he did some good things, but over the last few months I feel that he's made some really dumb decisions. If a strong left wing candidate steps up against him in 2018 they'll get my vote. If it's just Thug Ford, then Tory will hesitantly get my vote.

Ford vs Tory or Trump vs Clinton

Meanwhile, people need to start organizing to stop what he's going to do now over the next year and two- 2018 is too far away.

It's fascinating that Ford and Tory represent two polar opposites of the same political alignment.

Ford- the populist right, supported by the suburbanites.
Tory- the elitist right- supported by the political elite of the city.

They try to do the same thing, but through different manners.

So was Robbie and Dougie is, what we need is someone who is not a "politician" first, someone who is not partisan.

What you are trying to say is "same shit, different asshole". :)

Hilarious twattle about how drivers (or most drivers, SAL cannot make up her mind) are not responsible for road rage or its violent outcome, because, War On Cars!

City’s planners making mess of Toronto streets
There they were Sunday, their bike-helmeted heads all held high, blocking most of Bloor St. as they gleefully rode by me.

In case those of us using the sidewalk didn’t know (I saw them while doing my 15K training run for the upcoming Waterfront half marathon), the clutch of latte-sipping cyclists were proudly proclaiming with their smug signage that they’d conquered Bloor St.

Yes, another major road falls to the whims of the (empowered by City Hall’s socialists) bike lobby, common sense be damned...
