Good news on the London-St.Thomas transit front!
The Mayor of ST and London are working very quickly on bringing in transit between the 2 cities and the ST Mayor want it to be up and running by winter of this year. Amazon has been working with them as clearly they are having a harder time than they thought getting employees. It's important to remember that the new Amazon plant {which could potentially have 2,000 employees} does not have ST transit either as it is not in ST but rather in Southwold Township between London & ST.
At this point they don't know if it will be run by ST Transit, London Transit or contracted out to a smaller provider like some of the smaller inter-city servces have in the London area. They also don't know the frequency, fares, route etc. The route over the long-term would definitely go via Wellington and it's White Oaks transit station on the BRT line but until that time they aren't sure. Wellington is a very busy transit corridor but is currently being torn up for the BRT so traffic on the route getting into downtown is horrible {Wellington's busiest sections carry 50,000 vehicles a day} so they may have to go via Wharncliff/Lambeth.
No matter what they decide upon thou, it looks like service between the 2 cities is a go and will be coming online much faster than most thought possible.

This was the stupidest video Reece has ever done and after years of watching his usual excellent videos this is the first one I have every given a thumbs down to.
It was suppose to be about London but he spent the first 2 minutes talking about what rapid transit is then spent time talking about Renne and the next 7 talking about KW Ion. He went into depth about Ions success and gave a map of the system and even future expansions but didn't give one to London's BRT or even what it will look like and why the city decided to go BRT. He didn't mention the vehicles, the stations, the frequency {every 8 minutes all day} or the key destinations. It was a KW video with London being mentioned only at the end. It was akin to talking about GO expansion with the obligatory Toronto skyline pic and then proceeding to talk entirely about Montreal's REM.
It was a truly bizarre video.

Next year reconstruction begins at 'Oxbury' (major intersection of Oxford Street and Highbury Avenue, two of the few complete N/S / E/W roads in the city) and that is going to be an absolute nightmare as there are few decent detour choices as it gets rebuilt. Then again I WFH so can't complain much, but ya it's going to succcck for everyone. Short term pain for long term gain for sure. So many Fanshawe College students use this intersection, and it's overdue for a makeover. As much as I like using the 'porkchop' islands for right turns, they are crazy unsafe for pedestrians and need to go the way of the Dodo, at least here.

Update on the London-St.Thomas transit front......................it's a go!!!
The service between London & St.thomas will start on April 8th/24 and will run 7 days a week and have several buses in each direction. There will also be a new service from Dorchester which has about 5,000 20km SW of London.
It will be run by Voyago which run small community buses throughout SWO. The buses will run from ST and make a few stops and then head right up Wellington over the 401 to White Oaks Mall which is a major bus interchange for London and will be near the terminus of the Wellington Gateway BRT. The fare will be $5 one way which seems reasonable. The actual schedule and details like whether the fares will be integrated with ST Transit and/or London Transit have yet to be revealed. The fares should be integrated using Queen's Park subsidy which GO & TTC now have. If it's good enough for Toronto, it should be good enough for London.
After decades of studies and recommendations by every bureaucrat in the district, it is so exciting to see this go ahead. I'll keep you guys updated as more info becomes available.

Huh- London and St. Thomas actually working together on something that was successful. Could this be the birth of a new regional municipality?
Extending the BRT over the 401 is doable some day- the Wellington Road overpass structure is relatively new and should be wide enough to accommodate it. I envision a extension to a carpool lot or something around Digman Dive by the new Costco where the St. Thomas link would connect. This would also provide a good transfer point to routes in the industrial south of the city.

For now it's getting the approved routes completed. BRT cost overruns are costing the city dearly and a lot of other projects are being deferred or outright cancelled since the BRT stuff has to be completed on time to qualify for provincial/federal funding.
It is very frustrating for everyone involved and the senior governments are not budging on their dates despite the pandemic, inflation, supply and worker shortages. Fun fun.

They are in 2 different counties - Middlesex and Elgin.
