My house has a bit of mould in it! Should I elect to bring a guy in who has some ideas to make things better or should I BURN MY HOUSE TO THE GROUND HAHAHA TAKE THAT YOU SOCIALIST HOUSE!

No RE81 should not be banned, I'm tired of that shit, people are allowed to have different opinions.

Well, RE81 himself has said pretty much that the reason he created a whole new thread just for himself was because he does not respect the opinions in the other threads. So this thread itself is disrespect for differing opinions. If he does not respect other people opinion there is no reason anyone should respect his.

Canada's laboured descent into full blown Tea Party-style craziness is going to be fascinating to watch because we can all see it coming but nothing is seemingly able to stop it.

Yeah, a lot of emerging far right movements in the developed world these days. Rob Ford and his supporters more like the PVV than the Tea Party.

^Don't worry, Matt. I personally think that Tea Party no-nothing populism is either a fad or something that can't really go anywhere.

One of the worst things about the United States is that it's basically a country where corporations and an Ivy League-educated elite holds all the power. On the other hand, one of the best things about the United States is that it's basically a country where corporations and an Ivy League-educated elite holds all the power. Raging mad middle class white Americans who own lawn care companies in Tennessee will not be able to gain the upper hand no matter how hard they try; the system is stacked against them.

I believe I once heard a story about a conversation between American novelist Tom Wolfe and the German novelist Gunther Grass. Grass said - during the Bush years - "I think the cloak of totalitarianism is about to descend upon America." Wolfe replied "It always seems to descend upon America, but it always lands on Europe." That quote is pretty apt. The American system I described above has survived for 230 years, through more trying times than these, and a Republican or Democrat-held administration is just a slight nuance in one direction or another toward reinforcing the same power group.

Why should OUR tax dollars go to fund YOUR Sheppard subway line, which shouldn't have been built in the first place, when more would be served with a DRL?

This is such a trolling post. It was so obviously created to stir the pot.

I don't think it is, I hear these same arguments every day from this one angry co-worker. He lives in Scarborough, hates downtown, complains about taxes 90% of the day and the other 10% is spent on complaints regarding homeless, welfare abusers, etc with anecdotal evidence. He thinks Miller is the worst mayor we've ever had and has already voted for Ford. From the sounds of it, his entire family is the same way.

Do want to respond to this one:

My ex-girlfriend was a drug addict from Newfoundland, came to Toronto because we have the resources to help people like her get clean.

And what resources from the city of Toronto, not the province, did she get that she could not in Newfoundland?

And for all the stupid things Miller has done, he has at least lowered the business tax rate substantially over his terms. Unfortunately, if anything he hasn't done it enough.

While Miller is on record of saying the same thing, he has not cut the businesses taxes. He implemented a program that raises them slower than residential. It was the most timid approach one could think of, and only taken reluctantly. He did not even commence the program.

Toronto is a great city. And look how much better it has become under Miller!

No one would suggest burning this city to the ground.

Smitherman might not be the best mayor ever, but he'll be far better than Ford.

He certainly won't embarrass the same way as Ford would, with his homophobic bigotry.

I'm really surprised that a newbie would jump in here with post after post. Like many others recently, RE81 is likely not a newbie, but is probably yet another banned member looking for a fresh start with an alias. That is why I suggest be be banned. Not for his opinions, but because everything points to him/her being a troll.

Everyone hates Miller and business are leaving. Perception is everything.

How do people become so ignorant? Toronto taxes aren't high ... compare to other 905 and 519 communities. We play less $.

No one likes taxes, but holy lack of perspective.

You are completely wrong.

Of two recent polls, one has shown that the majority think Miller has done a good job, and the other has shown he would be re-elected.

Employment data shows that employment in Toronto has grown steadily since Miller was elected, peaking in early 2009, with only a small drop during the recession to 2007 levels, but still much higher than 2003.

So not only does not everyone not hate Miller, not even the majority hate Miller. And if businesses are leaving, why did employment hit record levels under Miller?

What is it within Ford supporters, that makes them so gleeful when they are shit disturbing? They can't just express their views without getting belligerent and condescending. Everything is about right-wing, left-wing, socialism, communism and don't forget those unions. Anybody who disagrees with Ford is an NDPer,a hippy or a champagne socialist. Sheesh, this is municipal politics, political parties are not the focus. I'm not an NDP, Liberal or conservative member/supporter. I just think Ford is an ass hole and not fit to be mayor. It has nothing to do with him being right or left.

Why would someone even start a thread like this? I can only see one purpose, which is to start arguments. Some people (especially the Ford Horde) never seem to get enough. OK, you voted Ford, so? Yeah, you'll teach Toronto a lesson. Good for you.

As I said earlier, the line between a Conservative and a troll is non-existent these days.

Another one I've heard is that since Obama's been elected president, the left has gone right and the right has gone bat-shit crazy...
