Highway Expansion

What would the highway bisect? It's located in the rural strip between the two.
There are a few existing neighbourhoods in Whitby that are located west of the planned highway corridor. Whitby's concern is that residents of these neighbourhoods would have a highway corridor between them and the rest of the town.

I'm not sure how this is a real issue. They already have the 401 "bisecting" the north and south ends of Whitby and seem to be living with it just fine.

Ultimately, both Ajax and Whitby seem to want the benefits of the connector highway being nearby but don't actually want it in their town. The problem with Whitby's alternative is that to move it further west would require moving it at least partially into the Ajax greenbelt, which seems very unlikely.

Amalgamation might be a good idea... but that fact is irrelevant because its the political equivalent to sticking your head in acid.

As far as I'm concerned all of Toronto and the 905 should be their own province. Separate from Ontario. And it should just be one-tier. Nix the provincial/municipal boundary. Just the federal govt and the Toronto-area govt.

^^ SO true, then we could keep our own taxes and maybe afford to build new infrestructure. Of course, in that case the Ontario Legislature would have to move somewhere else.
