GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

"Caravaggio is a new high-capacity double-deck regional train being manufactured by Hitachi Rail Italy."

That is almost certainly the former Ansaldo-Breda... which... yikes.

Decent video from Trenitalia

I like it but I also hope that's not what we're getting. Double deck with only two doors is great for suburb-to-core commuting (GO transit today) but horrible for high frequency mass transit (GO RER tomorrow).

If they ever manage to electrify Kitchener or Niagara end to end though, this would be good for the express trains...

Canadian rail regulator tends to rubber stamp the American regulations.
While they frequently do, the handling of non-standard rolling stock was one of the major areas where the two differed in their thinking.

they need to get into the mindset that the double deck behemoths are not the answer necessarily, rather more frequent single deck trains.
alas they wont be swayed.....
Or use both sides of a train at stations with platforms on both sides being used. AKA Spanish solution.

Does anybody know if the Alstom bid could include former Bombardier designs such as omneo or twindexx?

I'm surprised Siemens and Stadler have been eliminated. Perhaps delivery times?
