Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

^ The pending legislation may assist with the delivery of this project. City staff noted the province is going to bring it in soon. So that's some recent news of more news to come.

Tweets from reporters who were at Mulroney's speech just now.

  • Mulroney says government will require owners of property adjacent to transit projects to require permits for work that could affect transit. Mulroney says government will require owners of property adjacent to transit projects to require permits for work that could affect transit.
  • New law would require builders to acquire a permit for any development that could interfere with transit construction;
  • Metrolinx to be given new powers to coordinate utility relocations;
  • New authority to assemble land for transit projects - presumably, changes to expropriation law;
    • Minister says government will “modernize” the process of assembling lands for transit projects (read expropriation). She says property owners’ rights will still be respected.
  • Also, changes to environmental assessment law to smooth the way for priority transit projects.
    • Minister says the current environmental approval process “does not offer the flexibility needed” to get transit built quickly. Changes coming, but this “does not mean that we intend to relax any environmental protections.

Upcoming meeting. Metrolinx says the webpage will be up soon.

Hopefully the Sheppard-McCowan station will encourage those north of the 401 to take the transit, as they don't have to cross the 401 anymore.

It'll be a long overdue start for these residents and will certainly help many commuters immediately.

A Sheppard subway feeding across this stop into Malvern will be the game changer for the area. Moreso if the City can get the EELRT built before or around the same time. It is still a very long way to go before we see a major change in travel behavior.

The year 2150 will be a good year. Maybe you can eat your veggies, exercise every day and perhaps be able to see your dream come true.
The entire Toronto subway system was built in less than 70 years, and 28 km opened in the last 20.

At that rate, we could build YN, the Relief Line, Sheppard East, and Scarborough by 2041.

Cyrosleep till 2150 it is then. By then Toronto should have a subway system to rival Tokyo's or NYC's. Right?

Any sense on when the material for the meeting will be posted?

Steve notes that aspect in this post:

I wonder if there will be a friendly competition between the two strong SSE supporters @Rainforest and @OneCity for who will post it here first :)

Outside STC, on McCowan, that yellow and black (soil sampling?) truck is set up. Noticed it a couple years ago by Osgoode Hall and in East Harbour, presumably for the Relief Line.

I find this next bit odd, to be honest...........I'll have to have a read through on the assumptions later:

One word for that: REDACTION. (Def. "The act or process of preparing a document for publication, especially by deleting private or sensitive information.") Something used a great deal especially these days from small "c" conservatives (Republications and [Progressive] Conservatives).
