Toronto CityPlace: Montage + Neo (Concord Adex, 47 + 16s, KPMB)

Night pictures, September 23

^^^ Yes, great perspective! It is indeed interesting how it comes across so thin.

Here are some pictures from last night. The lantern on the roof has been on for a few months but I don't think it's received much notice.

New public art going up outside of Montage at the south linear park. They've put in temporary supports on all three levels of the parking garage for the cranes. Hate to have one come through the roof on top of my new car!

ProjectEnd what building is that? I know its in New York, and it looks amazing!

Slim is good, anything that detracts from the generic "box" shape's attractive in my books. That NY building's a perfect example of it.

That is the Carnegie Hall Tower in NYC, rising 60 floors/231 meters. In person it is stunning, and for 10 years has been my favourite building. Wish we could get a version of this in TO.

Inkblot Media is producing a short documentary film on the history of Mark Di Suvero’s "No Shoes" sculpture:
http://inkblotmedia.ca/films/flower-power

This 15 minute documentary tells the story of American artist Mark Di Suvero’s “Flower Power†and “No Shoes†sculptures: from their conception in 1967 as part of the Toronto International Sculpture Symposium, to today, as they sits in shambles in Toronto’s High Park; to the future, as they are restored and re-installed in a beautiful new city park. Using archival materials and interviews, the film will also present a brief glimpse into the artist’s career and life to connect his personal history with the inspiration for his art and show why it is so important for these sculptures to be restored to their former glory.

FLOWER POWER by Mark di Suvero (Photo: rutard.ca)

Two sculptures by internationally-renowned artist Mark di Suvero have been permanently removed from High Park. The sculptures,â€Flower Power†(above) and “No Shoes,†were created in the 1960s and are considered important works in the abstract expressionist style. According to Clara Hargittay, with Toronto’s Culture Division, “Flower Power†is likely the most valuable work of public art in Toronto’s collection.

The pieces have long suffered deterioration at their High Park location. After restoration, “Flower Power†will be relocated to a more protected location, in a central waterfront park to be created as part of the Concord Adex development. The City of Toronto will keep ownership. Discussions are underway to determine the final home for “No Shoes.†The decision to relocate came after consultations with members of the Art Committee for Public Places.

I agree. ^^^ It was dismantled, overgrown and forgotten in a corner of High Park.
