Brampton Transit/Zum

I believe the Uxbridge - Newmarket bus begins this year. Its only going to run to the 404 commuter lot at Davis though, then force a transfer onto the new VIVA route on Davis to get to Newmarket Terminal. My understanding is that it is going to be run with a community route bus - the ones that are converted E series vans.

One other service I would like to see is a bus to Pickering GO from Uxbridge. Being able to connect to the lakeshore line on DRT would be great.
 
Here are some photos I shot on April 22 of the BYD Electric Artic bus at Mississauga City Hall that could be roaming the Brampton roads starting next year. More up on site

Since the Province made the announcement in Brampton on Monday about Transit going green and using its system as a test bed, it will be interesting to see what get used up there.

The BYD bus out of California can travel 300 km before doing a 3 hours recharging cycle. No idea what speed will see the greatest drain on the batteries.

No idea how they brought the bus up here other than being on a low boy trailer since it would take weeks to driving it here and stopping every 300 km and wait the 3 hours for recharging to be done.

As for Peel Transit, long over due, but what happens if Mississauga leaves the Region of Peel like it wants to do now.

Probably the same way that they and other outfits that make similar products like Proterra have done sales trips before - run from city-to-city, do a demo in the middle of the day to afternoon, and plug it in overnight prior to leaving for the next city.

I wonder how they figured that the current fastest route to UTM from Gateway is the 103 to the 1? The 103 to Dundas during the AM rush takes 38 minutes, from there to UTM the 1C takes 20 minutes while the 101 takes 16 minutes. Alternatively the 502 to Square One takes 30 minutes in the AM rush, the 110 to UTM from Square One takes 24 minutes. Both of those are faster options than the 103 to the 1.

September service changes are up.

Of the noteworthy changes:

  • Route 561 Queen West Zum - Monday to Friday service only, no service after approx. 7PM, with service interlined with 505 Bovaird.
  • Route 199 UTM Express - Six round trips, 3 in AM peak, 3 in PM peak, non stop from Shoppers World to UTM via Highways 407 and 403.
  • Re-alignment of routes in west end; route 56 is gone, route 1 Queen is extended to Mount Pleasant, adjusted (and improved) routes 1, 1A, 57, 60 and new route 55 serve area west of McLaughlin Road
  • More re-alignment of routes in southwest end, new Sheridan College terminal that will allow all nearby routes to enter the campus. Route 54 is gone. (Too bad there's still no proper east-west bus on Ray Lawson)
  • Improved and/or additional service to routes 502, 26, 50, 115
Nothing terribly exciting, and I wish more was done to rationalize the route structure in parts of Brampton.
 
If Brampton truly wanted to better connect its citizens to UTM and other places in Mississauga, it wouldn't have killed the Main LRT.
 
With another BT route extending deep into Mississauga, regional transit is looking more and more necessary.
Its time for Peel Transit and scrap the 2 systems that should had been done on day one or at least 2 decades ago.

Between the 502 and this route, miWay was lost a lot of riders and money.

Just think what various routes that are currently 2 seat ride could become 1 seat and meet riders needs a lot better.
 
Remember when Brampton Transit had the only double decker bus in regular transit service in Canada? Victoria BC, GO Transit and OC Transpo now operate double deckers, but Brampton Transit bus 8500 lives on in Toronto sightseeing service, but with its roof cut off.
