2018 Ontario PC Leadership Race

Who do you think will win the PC leadership race (not who do you support)?

  • Patrick Brown

    Votes: 3 10.0%
  • Christine Elliott

    Votes: 25 83.3%
  • Doug Ford

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Tanya Granic Allen

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Caroline Mulroney

    Votes: 2 6.7%

  • Total voters
    30
  • Poll closed .
I imagine he got the boot mostly in part due to the shady nominations and inflated membership numbers based on non-existing members/people. I mean, Fedeli was all about cleaning up the internal party rot.

I'm beginning to regret that $10 on a PC membership.

At today's campaign rally for Brown:
Thanks for the heads-up. I missed the live YouTube broadcast, and they don't have a replay up on the link, so I was curious as to how it went.

To be honest, after the vanilla milquetoast shake that Paikin was the undisputed winner of last week, all Brown has to do is stick to his script. Whether he was able to deliver that with conviction is the question.

If anyone watched it, please comment, or if there's any clips of it on-line, please link.
"You cannot make policy on the fly this close to an election," he said. "It is a recipe for disaster."
Andrew Coyne made this argument forcefully and with alacrity days after Brown stepped down, and it may yet prove to be more prophetic than intended. Coyne never saw this eventuality (Brown running again), not many of us did.

There's going to be a lot of heads rolling off the guillotine if Brown does win this. Not that I want to see him as Premier, but I do want to see a wronged man get his one-uppance on the back-stabbers.

I wonder if they all lose their heads individually, or en masse?

.@brownbarrie leadership bid may not be curtains yet. just confirmed he can appeal the provincial nominations committee's negative decision to the @OntarioPCParty executive committee. and he still has a lot of friends there. stay tuned...#PCPOLdr #onpoli

Interesting.

Just received an email from the Brown campaign. Read into it what you will:

Here's the fact.

Party insiders don't want us to win.

You'd think it would be the Liberals who are sitting back and running smear campaigns.

It's not.

Some elites and insiders think they are above process and above the grassroots.

They stole my personal bank information and leaked it to the media.

They think they can use my personal life, family and relationships against me as attacks.

Now they are trying to block our campaign completely.

I am focused on one thing.

Beating Kathleen Wynne.

I'm the only leader who can do it.

Because I'm the only one with a plan.

They are going to fight.

They are going to lie.

They will do anything to stop us. Why? Because the party membership has become too big for them to control.

When they lie about Party memberships. They are lying about you.

Stand with me right now.

We need to take our Party back from them.

Click here to say you're in.

Patrick

The road ahead is dark and full of terrors indeed. Wynne must be somewhere doing a "Hallelujah!" double take right about now.

And from memory, you're well to the right. It is a mess, doubtless, and more pundits are now predicting a complete fracture of the party, which is not that surprising, the various factions are radically opposed on a number of issues.

But here's a headline and a question it begs:
Ontario’s Tories allow Patrick Brown to run for party's leadership
Party’s decision comes after a number of chaotic weeks in the wake of Brown’s resignation amid allegations of sexual misconduct

So assuming there was a majority in caucus who supported or were represented by the Cmte that approved this...where does that place Fedeli, Hillier et al on the spectrum?

Some of those votes would have been pragmatic with an eye to realizing Brown would be even more trouble outside than in, but still, there's a lot of bloodletting to happen yet...

I'm not even far-right. Under normal circumstances I'd consider the Liberals. It's just that how many things cumulatively can they be forgiven for before I reach my limit. Change and renewal is good. If Brown was going to have the same fate as Hudak (an angel by comparison in retrospect), maybe it's for the best he got found out about now than in the midst of the campaign when he'd have to be on the ballot til the end.

I hope for Christine Elliot to win. She's the least flawed option left. If anything though, this whole scenario shows at its core the Conservative Party wants to root out corruption, no matter against who. This only acts to endear them with the public that they'd even risk electoral loss to appear ethical and transparent.

It was presumptive of me to pigeonhole you, my apologies, but from your comments in a number of forums, you were slightly to the right in spirit, if not voting.

One has to wonder if the contagion is contained to the Cons? Are the Libs just able to hold things together by good fortune rather than intrinsic strength?

It's not just Ontario, it's international even where parties, rather than coalescing, seem to be fracturing. A good part of that is down to proportional representation, but not all of it.

Is the day of "The Big Tent" numbered? We might be about to find out as that pertains to the OntCons. Frankly, I and a lot of folks would be happy to the see the emergence of a Centrist Alternative, much akin to the Big Blue Machine of the past. Blue in name, but very centrist, and with few exceptions, a very effective regime for generations.

I found my centrist alternative years ago.
Socialists think we're conservatives and conservatives think we're socialists. Meanwhile, our ranks include both and our EDA meetings are sometimes hilarious in their attempts at consensus. Lawyers, workmen, farmers, doctors (real and PhD in arts), students, pensioners, artists, businessfolk, and yes, obligatorily, environmentalists...we have them all and we all get along just fine.

Of course, people are still hung up on the lie that we're a one-item ideological club. Can't fault folks entirely when journalists don't help inform though. (Though, I will say I can deffo fault Rex Murphy for thinking so as he should know better [in reference to his column in the National Post two weekends ago]).

If the PC Party were to move in the same direction as is your wish, I'd be all for it. I rather feel ill when exposed to demagoguery and extreme rhetoric and the less of it around, the better.

It now seems that both Brown and Ford are on about the "elites" in the party wanting to keep them down. This leads me to believe that said elites might be on to something if they're equally against both. Ford being particularly repulsive, it is telling that they would heap Brown in with his lot.
It begs the question though: why aren't they against an unrepentant extremist like Granic Allen?

I hope they sort themselves out after the provincial election. We need a stable and sane PC Party.

It's a good question, actually this is a good discussion altogether. My observation is that Granic, by not being taken seriously by any faction of size, is just not a threat to the 'status quo'. Pardon my language, but she's an obnoxious flip case, the kind that would have a few drinks at a party, and promptly offend everyone. There's something hideous about her. The pious usually stink. She reminds me of too many 'Born Agains' who still smoke and drink while lecturing everyone else on how immoral they are. And I get a tinge of that 'morality play' from the likes of Fedeli and Hillier too. My sixth sense alerts me that the reason they preach so high and mighty is to hide their own skeletons.

I hope they sort themselves out after the provincial election. We need a stable and sane PC Party.
My hunch? They won't, either before or after. I can't see an homogenous party after all this shid, and they shouldn't stay together. One faction will reform into a viable and electable centrist party.

The rest can have book and witch burnings, and hunt taxes with hounds. "Tally" Ho!
