2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

Maybe not Budd Dwyer-esque (hopefully!), but I could see something like this happening...

Even that's too deliberate.

At this point, I can almost see him breaking down and bawling "I want my mommy!"

Or else, maybe, post-e-day, refusing to leave or give up his office until he's tear-gassed out of there.

Out of curiosity, how would having another mayor from outside the old City of Toronto unify the megacity? We've had two already.
I was thinking more of one without former political to the former suburb cities. If us downtowners promote another urbanist candidate, we'll see Ford win support in the 'burbs.

I can also see Doug Ford (assuming he doesn't win a seat at QP) stating that "Toronto has become a communist city run by socialists and a left-wing media" and thereby he is moving the entire Ford Family and its Deco business to Milton. Or maybe Chicago. One or the other though.

I'm glad I'm paying for Olivia Chow an MP salary while she goes on a self-promoting book tour.

A Mayor for One Toronto.

Sadly, this is just a fan video. For now.

If this is a fan video how did they get Chow to star in it? I'm assuming she'd deny since she's not yet declared.

Edit: Ahh I now see who's responsible for this. Looks great

The video is from her book launch. The only edit is the final screen that replaced her book cover with a campaign logo. The fact that it's so interchangeable goes to show you how this was tailored to voters.

Talk of improving communities, working with others such as right wing Mel Lastman, demonstrating her long history in public life, saving every penny, her struggle as an immigrant (like over 50% of Toronto) and rekindling the sympathy for her as Jack's widow. These are all key messages for her campaign -- and it's brilliant.

It's happening: Olivia Chow will be our next Mayor.

Yes it is politically brilliant - but so is Stephen Harper

I find it completely disingenuous that she's on 'full' campaign mode, paying Warren Kinsella through funds of god knows from where, and flying around to do a 'book tour'.

Olivia just needs to stay positive, show a nicer side of Toronto, friendly and well spoken without appearing too politically groomed or dismissive of Ford. When addressing Ford, her singular message is that Toronto deserves better.

Ford only knows the politics of attack. How is Ford going attack Olivia without appearing either misogynistic or racist -- or both? I can't wait until he uses the word "orientals" for the first time during the campaign. Or until Ford says that Olivia is just riding Jack Layton's coattails, in the process suggesting that a woman can't achieve anything without a man.

A good campaign manager would be able to craft a strategy that stands a chance against what John Laschinger is mounting for Olivia but Doug isn't it. Ford's campaign is already all over the place, disoriented, just a collection of buzzwords with no real strategy. That's not how he won in 2010. Add in the periodical scandals, upcoming police charges, possibly finally running out of luck while DUI and I can't see Ford standing a chance against a united left/centre under Chow.
