2008 Federal Election: GTA Voting Patterns

Seriously? That's a sad state of affairs. McCallion might be conservative in some ways, but she's more pragmatic than ideological.

Yeah this is truly interesting. I am really wondering how the finance minister will keep his seat after his repeated swipes at Ontario's industries. Sometimes, I think he wishes he were an Albertan.

I actually meant the Oshawa seat, not Whitby-Oshawa. But you make a good point. Mind you, Ontarians love getting slapped around, so why wouldn't we still vote for him? I can't imagine Flaherty losing. At least not without a massive swing against the Tories.

While I am not a huge fan of the Tories, I'd like to see at least one 416 riding elect a Conservative, to get us some buy in at the table. That person would be virtually guaranteed a spot in cabinet.

With Flaherty's policies of trying to drive jobs out of Ontario, and ignore the car industry, he might be in better shape in his riding, as many of the blue collar workers who live there will have to move to work. :)

Hazel McCallion, Steve Harper and Wajid Khan all present at a conservative fundraiser/rally today. I had no idea McCallion was in with that bunch of hypocrites and bigots. :p

As the saying goes, "If you're not a liberal when you're young, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative when you're old, you have no brain."

With Hazel getting up there in her years, I am not surprised.....

The people running against him would be idiots to not run his comments over and over again in commercials and in any debates. And the folks in his riding would be idiots to not see what he stands for.

Toronto Voting Patterns

Yes, there are two cultures in Canada. One is urban and the other rural. The left, as represented by the Liberal Party, the NDP, the Green Party and Mayor David Miller, deny that fact leaving the Conservatives as the only viable option for representing rural issues and rural cultural values. The Liberals and their cronies have ceased to represent all Canadians by their actions. They have chosen to support only urban values as only 20% of the electorate is rural and as such can be safely ignored. The current attack on legal firearms ownership is the flagship of that leftist philosophy. At 65 I have mostly voted Liberal but cannot continue given their parochial view of Canada and their willingness to move more to a state of diminished individual rights. Statements from Allan Rock and David Miller are scary as they echo those of Hitler and Stalin before them. As a historian, I am appalled by their ignorance of Canadian history and cultural roots. Or, are they denying history in favour of their own leftist agenda? There needs to be cultural understanding and tolerance of each culture by both parties. If the legal gun owners were Black, Jewish, Islamic or Gay/Lesbian the hateful rhetoric employed by David Millers, the Liberals et al would have been termed a hate crime and condemned roundly by all concerned. Traditional voters do a disservice to themselves and our country as a whole. No party deserves a blind obedience from the electorate. Trading insults on blogs does not address the issues nor does it promote solutions. Solutions must be inclusive respecting the cultures of ALL Canadians. Politicians cannot 'cherry pick' rights based on their personal prejudices and party platforms. That is morally wrong and cannot be defended.

actually Hitler was some sort of fascist socialist...

Who in any Canadian party sought to take away the guns of farmers? I'd like to read this proposed law.

Do you have some sort of list that says Black, Jewish, Islamic or Gay/Lesbian people do not own guns?

Limiting handgun ownership in Toronto does not affect rural people at all. If rural people want to blow each other away with registered long guns I don't think anyone cares.

That saying has not worked out very well as shown by the Bush Administration.

Since when has Allan Rock represented anything "current" in political discussion? Going on five years, now?

I think he was referring to the long gun portion of the registry which significantly increased the cost of rifle ownership, a tool of the trade for farmers.....by requiring the registration of non-restricted firearms. Most handguns were either restricted or prohibited weapons and were required to be registered anyway before the Liberals implemented the long gun registry. All they did was target farmers in the hopes of solving urban crime.....we can see how that worked out.....

whats the point of the long gun registry.

Seriously when is the last time, a Gang member used a hunting rifle to shoot another guy?

"Yoh, Mother F&*&*^, take this"

He cocks his gun and takes 10 secs to aim and he get shot 10 times already by a 9mm

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Stupid, crazy idealists.

If you want a world of no gun crime, go after the problem it self and not go off on a tangent to satisfy your hate on rural folks.

I don't think most people are genuinely concerned about gang members killing each other. But, shotguns have been used for robberies before. I agree that a long arm registry isn't really the right strategy. We should have just outright banned handguns for any but police and military.
