    General railway discussions

Absolutely, but it certainly doesn't help that the employees working the large yards at CP and CN are usually the most junior. Often you'll have two conductors working together who've only been on the job for a few months and this after being rushed through training. When you reduce crew sizes...

    General railway discussions

Correction; a crew member, not necessarily an engineer. Yard crews in the big freight yards don't normally have an engineer, they're typically manned by two conductors controlling the loco remotely using belt packs like this (The red flashing light on the underside of a loco indicates it's a...

What's with the extra high central core? Usually the exterior columns would rise up higher as well, unless they're switching to steel for them.

The design may have been dumbed down but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far, the geometry is still more interesting than 95% of the condos going up in this city.

Ho.Lee.Sheet. Feels I've been waiting my whole damn life to see buildings like this get built in Toronto. Yeah still a lot that can go wrong between now and completion, but sometimes miracles do happen(The One). At least the vision is there.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Where exactly were you stopped? The Milton line is a single-direction service; there is no point where a train on that line would have to wait for other GO trains except when it gets too close to Union. As for why it would have to stop before entering Union Station, there are several reasons...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Indeed. Unsurprising, for anyone that's ever been to West Harbour you'd know that there's so much space beyond just the immediate platform, in contrast to most other GO stations.

The buildings contrast too much, in a bad way and they're too simular in height. If it were shorter it could have created a nice step down appearance but together at that height they make for a jarring pair of dissimilar twin towers.

Anyone know what the deal is with the enclosed glass canopy on the rooftop level(only on the higher section). Is there some sort of private observation deak/corridor located up there?

That puny little office building attached to the arena has got to go! A waste of space and a wasted opportunity.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

In order to not overload Union Station. With the amount of passenger flow projected they absolutely must look at options to provide future relief for Union station otherwise it risks being overwhelmed even with the planned upgrades to the station. By stopping at the Ex passenger traveling into...

I first saw that many years back expected the CTBUH to make the appropriate changes but surprisingly there's never been any corrections. Yes the Google Earth data could be wrong, but if it was wrong there would be a lot more evidence. How so? Well, GE's elevation data was taken from the Shuttle...

Agreed. When it comes to massing this and the CG tower are the two best skyscrapers(150m+) going up in the GTA, despite the poor cladding its still a 'win' overall to me. However even with better cladding CG is not without it's own (minor)flaws either.

You guys may be right, but it'll hardly matter in the end as it isn't a Chrysler Tower vs 40 Wall Street scenario, it's more of a Chrysler Tower vs the Empire State Building. It may lose the battle but ultimately it will win the war, that much has been decided. Chrysler may have been the first...

That area has so much density now that it looks like it could be the downtown core of a smaller Canadian city in and of itself.
