    Streetcar and light rail signals

If the streetcar is clear to proceed, it's also clear for motor vehicles beside them to proceed. Why make the cars wait? Of course, the left turn signal thing makes less sense, but that's another story.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Sounds great if it could happen that quickly, but considering the Spadina ext isn't to open until 2015...

Is there a way to get off the pedestrian connection without having to walk down the ramp all the way to old leslie?

    Safety Myth

If you live in the city and all your destinations are in congested urban areas (speeds below ~30mph), there is basically no chance of death from a car accident. Bicycling in the same environment is safe, but is by no means safer than driving. In a suburb, on the other hand, the chance of...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

    Change bike laws

I rarely make full stops no matter what type of vehicle I'm in/on. In a car this probably saves about one cent in gas per stop sign (which I admit isn't a lot, but neither is ~2 pedal cycles on a bike assuming 5mph). I do fully stop, however, when the intersection is blind-I propose that North...

Gas Prices too high??? Why not just slow down?

I think it's more about how avoiding hard braking also involves more gliding/coasting/slowerdriving because you have to accelerate pretty fast on a short driveway to be able to make a hard stop. Its related very indirectly, but its related nonetheless.

    Hydrogen Fuelled Trains

but gasoline is a fuel-You can't store energy in gasoline or it would be renewable.

    High-rise temperatures

I haven't been in a high rise since I visited china 10 years ago, so I was wondering about the temperature variation between floors. In a house the upper story usually has a lot less wind and is much warmer (about 3degreesF) than the one below it. Does anyone know how the wind or temperature...

    Flying American flags in Canada

They say American students don't have to say the pledge, but if you don't, a lot of teachers are going to give you a really hard time (and you're risking your grade at the same time). And this is off topic, but its ridiculous to see so many people demanding the "under god" line be kept when it...

    Hydrogen Fuelled Trains

That's because Iceland is swimming in Hydropower and Geopower-Hydrogen is electricity intensive and that's perfect for a country like that. As for trains, Iceland doesn't have any rail, and caternary would probably be 80% efficient (compared to ~20% for Hydrogen)

    Hydrogen Fuelled Trains

"the company did not reveal the details". Hm, I wonder why... Electrolysis is way too energy intensive for any "similar" process to actually produce energy. Honda or some carmaker has a huge array of solar cells that only produces enough Hydrogen to fuel something like one car a day.

    Avoid Engine Brakes

I do it regularly in my car, because if the rpm'age is above 1200 or so the engine consumes basically no fuel. Ok so its not the same concept, but still...

    North American union

^This scheme (aka the Jesusland map) would probably work a lot better than any complete union with this country...Obviously it would still be "US"-dominated but at least not so much by anti-transit sprawling areas like Houston, Atlanta, or for that matter Cincinnati (metro pop 2+ mil, and no...

    Ultimate Suburban McMansions

If 4500sf counts as a mcmansion, then basically all the houses in my area is one: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Mason,+oh&ie=UTF8&ll=39.382162,-84.303031&spn=0.008459,0.017338&t=k&z=16 For reference, the smallish looking homes on the right are around 3500sf each. The area...

Star: 70% of drivers admit to speeding

I beg to differ; out here in suburban Cincinnati, the standard freeway speed limit is 65mph (104), and within city boundaries, its 55mph (88). The true speeds are also much lower; its generally 65mph in a 55 zone, 70mph in a suburban 65 zone, and 75 in a rural 65 zone. (88-112-120...

Star: City Hall eyes traffic circles

It looks like the only people driving side by side are coming from the same entrance of the roundabout (the second video showed that both lanes yielded to a single car coming around), so it seems the left/straight - straight/right lane configuration would prevent accidents

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

As a similar example, how long did the No. 3 Rd Busway in Richmond BC serve before it was torn up again? Are people there protesting the supposed waste of resources? Can these two examples be compared?

    GTTA "Quick Start" Expansion

^Exactly; I visited for about two days and stayed in Mississauga. To take the bus to (Clarkson) GO station, I would need to take two buses, each with frequencies of worse than 20 minutes, to arrive. One way to remedy this would be GO shuttles (like they have at some other stations) that provide...
