GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

FYI! There is already a Centennial GO station elsewhere (not on Lakeshore), so that Centennial Street station is actually called Confederation GO Station.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Someone on X-Twitter (@_ChanFace) just made a good infographic of the expansions!

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Way too late, by over a decade. They made the definitive Main-vs-King decision in year 2011. Hamilton 2011 B-Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) Environmental Project Report (EPR) While the original document is no longer extant on Metrolinx's site, scattered references to it exist in Hamilton's city...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Here's my brief commentary. GOOD: They are going to make Main and King 2-way permanent, including adjusting the offramps to accomodate that. BAD: It adds 2 turns to an otherwise straight Hamilton LRT alignment. It will significantly slow down the LRT ride especially for McMaster students...

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

In theory they can remove the disused railroad but keep the diamond area intact and signalled (due to the amount of time it takes to modify the signal), wouldn't it? Technically, it would not interfere with pedestrian walkway construction, and some workarounds can be done (signal now...

Battery-electric bus transition plans (Ontario, funded by Metrolinx)

I drove by a flaming combustion vehicle during my roadtrip in USA on I-95. It was solo, pulled over, and appeared to have a dropped gas tank (big squarey tank thing fallen to asphalt between the four tires). Apparently sometimes a bolt or strap get loose. EV fires makes the news simply...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Don’t look now, but look at who is using Toronto’s cycle infrastructure: https://www.blogto.com/film/2022/08/arnold-schwarzenegger-biking-toronto/

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Welllllllll.... It's not too late to register as a candidate for the Hamilton Municipal Election. 🤣 Anyway, speaking of which, there's been a sudden flurry of campaigning starting up, at least in online advertising. At least if you're in the Hamilton geographical region. Fortunately I am not...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I don't remember along the LRT route, but there's an incomplete log cabin on Barton 😀 Side story: This is now an infamous Hamilton Barton Ward 4 landmark in that community, because it's been incomplete for a few years. For some reason, their construction stopped a few years ago, maybe they...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Based on my knowledge, I kinda prefer Keanin as someone who's been successful unifying local cons + local libs + local ndp. I prefer a politics-unifier mayor, personally. If you look at his tweets, he's a moderate-progressive style in action speak. (After all, he did kick @fordnation out of...

New GO Train Control+Signalling (PTC, CBTC, ETC) -- Safety & Subway-Like Frequency

Yes, that’s correct (in a roundabout way). However, ERTMS is a set of standards for literally 21st century technology, decades ahead of good old fashioned PTC. I find this fantastic news, because we’re leapfrogging far past the USA mainline signalling systems here. ERTMS, if all features are...

Just seeing this now — My condolences. I visit here a tad more infrequent, but I remember the good old days in the middle-2010s and the long threads between myself and George. It’s not the best times of history this decade — and so many families are so stressed. My heart goes out to his family.

As part of the renewal, it was mentioned that the sewers will also be enlarged (possibly provisions for separated sewer for all condo newbuilds along corridor — currently Hamilton is combined). I think the utilities upgrades are well worth it long-term. It was already known by me since 2015...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

You’re not thinking the useful perspective: It’s the COST PER MINUTE TIME SAVED :) I think that the costs to save a minute through Georgetown is quite reasonable, compared to the costs to save a minute between Kitchener-London. There are literally over a thousand separate construction...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It seems that most of the mass of building demolitions have now already occured earlier, so the remainder of building demolitions is smaller than the number of buildings demolished already. Instead, the war zone is the construction site to come, and the major bus & car traffic detours needed...

    The CATenary does, shockingly so.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Possibly -- but this route is worth starting from an incubation perspective. Facilitating future purchase of the subdivisions for future higher rail speeds. That's the big prize. However, London-Kitchener commute via GO should actually competes okay with peak-period driving, and they should...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The real use case is Londoners with work in KW, or the universities there. KW is an expanding employment centre, even in pandemic. In bad traffic, it already takes more than 1.5 hours, even almost 2 hours to drive during the worst part of peak hour. The GO train would be similiar, except...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I mean. This IS one of my least favourite part of the LRT. The chop down! Making good shade disappear to a summer scorched paved plaza! That’s why I suggest the small battery option for 2km of catenaryless ops. It can recharge on the catenary while on the gp outside downtown. No time lost.

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The LRT has been delayed so long, there's some minor tweaks that could be done to the resurrected LRT: Just like technology changed so quickly, that Eglinton Crosstown LRT recently cancelled a peaker gas plant to build the Metrolinx battery farm (article) like a UPS for the Crosstown LRT. A...
