    VIA Rail

It seems that have (or had) and couple in Halifax. https://blog.halifaxshippingnews.ca/2018/12/snow-fighting.html

    VIA Rail

Yes, like Midland and Orillia in the past few days.

    VIA Rail

I want what they're smoking. All that to serve a population of about 1/2 million (all-in, Labrador included), much of which lives on the Avalon Peninsula (greater St. John's). Running across Labrador in the winter wouldn't be any problem.

And the territorial capitals. Rail to Iqaluit !!! Where's Michael?

    TTC Cartography, Signage, and Wayfinding

I'll stay out of the fray only to say there is a non-insignificant part of the population who have no clue about cardinal directions when it comes to navigation or wayfinding (I'm married to one). There are also people who believe that (e.g.) north is the direction they are facing at the...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Do people have to be Toronto-bound to be considered "commuting to work"? I suspect that more Midland/Penetang residents work in Barrie or Orillia that the GTA (although apparently they don't want to take the bus to do it). Georgian College and RVH are two of Barrie's largest employers - and...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Not what their own business case says.

    VIA Rail

The way I understand it, this will be for all long-distance services, including the Ocean. Canadian has a premium service that caters to tourists and part of that is a 360 view, not just your side of the train.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Fair enough, but they currently only operate 24-seat (I think) buses. The point was made that the schedule favours student (local, as in Georgian College, Lakehead U, etc.) vs commuters, and my point disagreed. Besides, before everyone gets excited about meeting the GO train, it would be...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Or convert to bigger buses. An hourly service that runs from 0600-1900 (ish). How does the seat cares why the bum is sitting on it?

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I suspect that Northlander operations, much like every other form of public transportation, will be subsidized by the government. It's actually discussed in the Business Case. I doubt TTC operating costs are subsidized by garbage pick-up or snow removal.

    VIA Rail

They would need something or at least something equivalent. It is still a flag service for remote communities.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Strange. I just said that in the post your quoted. If the County is running a bus service, why would GO either run a parallel service or replace the County service? Most if not all of the Linx service is hourly 0600-1800 (some variations) Monday-Friday. Think GO would do that?

    Excursion service?

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

And you are correct, so I moved my comment over here instead of cluttering up the ONR thread. For those who feel running brand new, green field passenger rail hither and you throughout Ontario, specifically in the Simcoe County area, it might be helpful if there was a need or, in practical...

At least there is rail . . . and it is on topic!

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

It is interesting. Lines of trees, cut or embankments make sense, but sometimes soil discolouration in a field that has been worked for years still comes through. In Midland's case, off the top of my head, other than ripping out its waterfront, tearing down an entire subdivision, rebuilding a...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Thanks. Just looking at the terrain behind the station there are a couple of places it could have been but it would be just guessing. Our farmhouse was roughly the letter 'b' in the 'Wyebridge Community Centre" label. No, they are not.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Yes it did! A friend's laneway was part of the old ROW. We used to live in Wyebridge. Any idea where that station was? I've not seen that image before. There was also a spur that broke off somewhere around Elmvale and swung over to Hillsdale (it was apparently called the Hillsdale Tram) but...
