Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

My preferred routing for Sheppard is something along these lines. This would connect directly to Scarborough Centre, which is a major win. Scarborough Centre is (obviously) the major node in the area, and would eliminate the need to transfer at Sheppard-McCowan Serves Centennial College and...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I hope they'll look into the prospects of moving Line 4 to Ontario Line rolling stock. That would allow elevation, as well as more flexible routing options, which may make it economically viable for the subway to reach the eastern end of Scarbrough. Terminating this line at Sheppard still leaves...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

I would very much like this for Christmas. Make it happen, Doug!

Ghery's Luma Arles also uses stainless steel cladding, and the glazing looks awfully similar as well. This should be stunning.

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

Latent demand is a notoriously difficult thing to figure out. Upgrading from a bus with low service quality, to a rapid transit line with a very high service quality totally changes the travel dynamics. We can't just look at current bus ridership, and extrapolate subway ridership from that. The...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

I think you an I largely see eye-to-eye on this. At least in terms of what we're trying to accomplish. I made this map a few months back, when I was trying to figure out what direction we should take western Toronto transit. I must admit that I really do prefer your idea of routing the new...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

Yup, that could work. Transit signal priority is tricky though. We'd have to put a lot of faith in the powers that be to get this right, and to not implement policies that would degrade service quality). We'd also have to resist the urge to put stops every 300 metres.

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

It would relieve the northern parts (north of Eglinton), but it wouldn't do anything for the 29 Dufferin south of Eglinton in the AM rush hour. The Dufferin extension would be very expensive, but also worth every penny. This would be amongst the most well used segments of subway we've ever...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

I wish the city would quit dicking around with these waterfront LRT systems. They don't work well. Build largely elevated system, start it somewhere around Mimico. Make sure it hits Exhbition, Queen's Quay, Union, East Harbour and then the new Portlands development. Same rolling stock as OL, I...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

This is a tricky decision, because Dufferin and the western waterfront are both underserved by transit, and the Ontario Line running through either corridor would be tremendously well used. We have a lot of good options here. The issue with this is that the Dufferin Line would be extremely well...

Ontario Line Extension West of Ontario Place (Speculation)

Or how about an intermediate capacity elevated automated metro system for the waterfront? Essentially a Toronto version of the London DLR.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I'm bored, so I made a map (it's 2 AM... I really should go to sleep) ' The LRT line from my last post shown in red, GO in green, and the OL in blue. Looking at this map, I'm just realizing how insanely well used the Dufferin Subway would be. Starting from the south, we'd likely see 10...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The area is already served by a GO line, so the OL also going through the area seems like overkill to me. I'd much rather see southern Etobicoke served by an LRT line between Exhibition OL Station and Long Branch (roughly speaking) via the TTC Queensway ROW. It'll be very cost effective, and...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I'd much rather see this line travel to northern Etobicoke than the airport. Even with TYSSE and FWLRT, northern Etobicoke remains amongst the most isolated regions in the city via transit. Getting a rapid transit to the northwestern region of the city should be a priority. A subway there would...

Why would a primarily residential development produce a large number of AM peak hour alightments at Exhibiton?

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

My preference has been Dundas, but the specifics don't matter right now. One of the more "out there" ideas to deal with the capacity crunch is to decouple the portion of Line 2 east of Victoria Park from the rest of Line 2, and funnel those passengers directly into the core of the city via a...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The extension to Sheppard would almost certainly push the Ontario Line towards 25,000 pphpd, and Markham would push it dangerously close to 30,000. I don't necessarily view this as the end of the world though. The downstream impacts of a Markham extension is that RER passengers would no longer...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The Ontario Line Business Case presumes that the line would move at about 36 km/h. Markham Town Centre to Downtown Toronto is roughly 36 km, which translates to a travel time of roughly 45 minutes. That should more or less be the same as RER. Also please keep in mind that Markham is a big...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Sure they could take GO, but for a lot of Downtown-bound commuters the Ontario Line would serve them better. 1. The Ontario Line will have more stations than RER, which means it would be more accessible for thousands of Markham residents. 2. Our idiotic fare structure might incentivize them to...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Yeah, it looks like there's enough room to accommodate the grade change. However the tight curve necessary to from a southern to an east-west to a north-south alignment concerns me. It's my understanding that trains typically don't perform well when they have to simultaneously change grades and...
