    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This would create more space on the platforms, but the bottle-neck will still be at the transfer point to the LRT. Its Bloor-Yonge Part II for the transfer between trains, but made worse because both are centre platform. In theory there is room on the west side of the existing station once they...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

You mean North - there is no room to the south and the Eglinton line is at the north end of the existing station. As for a second platform, would be a significant project - accounting for existing (and new) buildings and the existing roadway. Yes this will be a busy station, but by 2030 we...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

A heavy-rail upgrade would be difficult and expensive unless that option is selected before stations are designed/constructed. You would be talking about a complete closure of the line and reconstruction of the platform level of all the stations (platform heights, stairs, escalators, elevators...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

My own experience supports this - In the AM rush I get on at Main St and unless there was a delay one can usually get a seat - trains are about every 3 mins (except at the early am rush say before 7am when they are every 5 + mins). In fact the trains are busier from 6 to 7am then from say 7am...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Okay - take away the "on" comment and the question still remains: there were specific issues during the very coldest days last year, correct? Did the TTC take any additional steps beyond their routine overnight procedures for the cars? Or were they simply unable to do anything to prevent the...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I believe they were left "on" as they were having issues with some equipment freezing (i'm sure smallspy can confirm - i think it was air hoses) - I recall there were quite a few days the entire fleet didn't make it out onto the street during those cold snaps

Does Construction Take Too Long to Complete in This City?

In addition to Drum's comment - very few asphalt plants remain open for the winter (in Toronto there are only a couple that come to mind). Typically depends on the weather and how strong the demand is - we had a very late start to the construction season this year, so we may find plants stay...

TTC: Automatic Train Control and Subway Platform Screen Doors

I have seen this pretty much daily at both Bloor and St. George (Line 1), the trains tend to crawl in heading Southbound during the AM rush. Where I haven't seen this is busy platforms on Line 2 where the trains definitely do not reduce their speed.

    Mississauga Mississauga Transitway | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | IBI Group

You do know this is a rendering and the BRT isn't built.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I was on that train - we were literally 40 feet from the south end of Museum station. It was actually crazy that the TTC didn't evacuate the train faster (it was actually an hour and 30 mins from when the power was cut until we were "evacuated"). The train was evacuated by the first door of...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

I agree the policies do need to change but penalty clauses may not be the way to go. The primary issue with a penalty clause is that Canadian contract law makes it hard to enforce such a clause without an equal bonus clause. x days late = $x penalty, x days early = $x bonus. The other issue...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I don't think the province Ontario voted in a majority Liberal government because of the Scarborough Subway ... If that was the case watch out for Doug if he makes his talked about move to provincial politics :s Subways for Ontario!

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

Actually a project I am working on - and you are correct that the roof of these 2 tracks (track 1 and track 2) are being rebuilt to match the original (heritage requirement/compromise) - this work also included restoring the "smoke vent panels" - those large concrete sections above the tracks

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Having dealt with them directly on many projects - Toronto Hydro is the worst. We have to understand a lot of what they do is extremely dangerous, and they put some serious restrictions around their work (this costs big $$$) - but its always their way or no way.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

They definitely need to reconsider how they sign the "Queen's Quay and Spadina" termination - the "510 Spadina / and Spadina" has to be the worst way to display the second line on the new cars. For the 510 you would think "510 Spadina / To Queen's Quay" would be sufficient - not sure why they...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Using this bridge for this "plan" makes no sense, and would provide minimal overall improvement for a lot of money. Just because it has capacity for an underground line does not mean there is any value in using it - the alignments make no sense, there would be no ability to extend west (where...

Roads: New Digital Turning Restriction Signals

I know most of the no turn times for a lot of the core and my general route from downtown to my house - but if you did not have the times listed, you might think you could never make a left onto University from King, for example. But the reality is its only banned for 7 hours a day, 5 days a...

Roads: New Digital Turning Restriction Signals

The old signs also let you know the times that the turns are illegal, the LED signs just tell you that you cant turn. I'd say you could never get rid of the standard signage, I would bet the HTA would require the standard signage if you are trying to ban turns.

Toronto Union Subway Station: Second Platform and Concourse Improvements | ?m | ?s | TTC | Arcadis

North of Sheppard the line is cut-and-cover. You can tell by the centre supports as North York Centre Station has side platforms. If it were tunneled using a TBM there would be enough spacing between the two tunnels for a centre platform (in most cases).

Cycling: Simcoe Street changes for bike lanes

I doubt there will be a physical island there - either only painted or removable bollards - as they have already paved the area. Probably want to keep the road clear of permanent obstacles like that in case fire trucks or other events need the roadway. Also, looks like only one SB thru lane at...
