    Downtown Markham

The carousel was commissioned by Remington and they continue to own the land. That site will be redeveloped in the future and the carousel relocated to a different site. It is already privately owned and part of Remington's $25 million public art program for Downtown Markham.

    Downtown Markham

It has a lot to do with Buttonville Airport limiting building height (the 28 storey Times tower on 7 got an exemption for piercing the approach surface I believe) so Remington is probably holding out until they can build taller (as financially they probably need to do). The airport was supposed...

Interestingly, there is a sign up for Sciberras at Enterprise: https://goo.gl/maps/21sBziT1XCr

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

Take a look at how Renfe high speed rail through Spain manages to overcome this problem...or as mentioned above, TGV in France. It's not a problem that can't be overcome.

Looking north, the beams for the Verclaire Gate bridge over the Rouge are now in place.

    Toronto elsewhere...

Parts of Broadway in Astoria (Queens) felt similar to stretches of the Danforth. https://goo.gl/maps/HuTqqkUNwm72

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Interestingly, both times an inspector came around, I just showed him/her my card they nodded and kept walking.

    Rob Ford's Transit plan

Are those really their respective plans? I can't seem to access those images going the regular route (of clicking links on his site). Correct me if I'm wrong.

what's up with those CUPE ads ?!?!?

Yeah, I don't quite understand why a union needs to advertise in the first place. The actors are bad, and the Asian man with the heavy accent seems like a last minute attempt at appealing to diversity, IMO... But hey, advertising revenue is always good for TV stations, right..?

Toronto as a Global City? What's holding us back?

Or that the City of London, England has only 7,900 people? I see how it makes sense to include the suburbs and the greater GTA as Toronto, because it all one continuous urban area. However, Toronto is clearly a city in itself, unlike Sydney or London *proper*, which are relatively small...

    Global warming: Real or Fraud?

Are you for real? Wow, that is impossible. The amount of carbon dioxide exhaled is negligible in comparison to the amount cars/planes/industries/etc. emit.

    Are you a road geek?

I know that parclo is short for partial cloverleaf, which is an interchange with 2 loops and 2 signalled/signed intersections. I believe it was "invented" by the MTO and is very common in Ontario.

Who has the longest commute to work?

I guess its not really fair to say, because I commute in Waterloo and not in TO... It takes just about 1.5 hours to travel 30 km from Mid Cambridge to the University of Waterloo using our precursor LRT, the iXpress. It usually sits in traffic at the 401 and Hwy 8 - which is sad. :(

TTC is awful. Just got back from a 4 month trip to Europe.

TTC is awesome. Just been living in Waterloo Region for 10 years. The routes are few and far between, the service is too infrequent, the busses come late or not at all, they short turn without notice, the express service sits in rush hour traffic. At least most of the drivers are friendly...

    Urban Toronto-Style Forum for Montreal?

Yep, there is. It's a mix of French and English, though. http://www.mtlurb.com/forums/

    TTC Boycott: Facebook activism

"Facebook activism" seemed to work when the University of Waterloo decided to change it's marketing logo to some ridiculous "W" with multicoloured lines running through it. Needless to say, they're redesigning it. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123891536822&ref=ts

Should Canada allow the option of private health care?

I also had an inguinal hernia repaired there last February. To my understanding that it's a for-profit hospital that was allowed to remain private because it was established prior to the Canada Health Act. However, their profits are capped to a certain amount. They're selective in who they take...

A controversial thread about handicapped people

First post here, *looks nervously* Remember that a handicap is not the fault of the person, a disabled person is only handicapped when their environment or the attitudes of others acts as a barrier. Trying to ride a bus that is inaccessible to them makes them handicapped. People who are...
