Rising in Etobicoke's Islington Village, two high-rise towers by Tridel and Hollyburn Properties are mostly formed. Designed by Kirkor Architects and Planners, the 20- and 27-storey buildings of Westerly Condos are rising just a short walk north of the Islington station on Bloor Line 2, on an irregularly shaped site predominantly fronting Cordova Avenue, which runs southeast to northwest.

In UrbanToronto’s last update from June, 2022, shoring had recently begun. Over the past two years, the buildings have made steady progress, with the taller tower now just two residential floors shy of its mechanical penthouse, and the shorter tower not far behind.

In this aerial view taken in January, 2023, we see the excavation underway. To the site's left, preparations are underway for the 20-storey Westerly 1, where a blue shoring rig is positioned. Further north, the shoring walls, secured with tiebacks, are draped in a protective orange tarp. To the right, the site for the 27-storey Westerly 2, displays a deeper excavation, with yellow excavators parked in the centre of the site.

Captured from Cordova Avenue in May, 2024, we see both towers after they reached grade earlier this year. To the left, the extending eastern volume of the podium of the shorter tower has been formed up to three storeys, while the taller tower has achieved ten storeys. Projecting balconies begin to define its facade from the sixth floor upwards. Safety measures include white protective fencing lining the floors. On the 11th floor, a concrete boom pump is seen to the right of the tower crane, with formwork visible to its right.

In August, 2024, we look northwest to Westerly 1, where the tower now rises from a four-storey podium. The podium projects out along Cordova Avenue, capped with a thicker concrete slab; above this will be the outdoor amenity area, currently used to stage formwork panels. The tower's form has risen eight storeys above the podium, diverging from the podium's squared-off corners for a more rounded configuration.

This month, we look eastwards to the north and west elevations of Westerly 1 on Cordova Avenue, just south of Dundas Street West. This perspective showcases the building with 15 storeys formed, offering a clear view of the construction hoist stationed near the southeast corner, The tower features a step-back above the 12th floor, where eight more levels will rise with a reduced floor-plate.

Looking north, Westerly 2 stands prominently along Central Park Roadway, now with 25 storeys formed. Precast panels are installed in kinked lines as high as the 13th storey. Below, tinted glazing framed by dark aluminum cladding is installed on the podium levels and the initial three storeys of the tower, contrasting with the precast panels. Gazing upwards, we see this tower’s own distinct step-back above the 20th level.

Upon completion, the towers will reach final heights of 68.85m for Westerly 1 and 87.9m for Westerly 2, housing 257 and 355 units respectively.
