    Mississauga (non-mall) Retail

I doubt its closing, they have remodelled most GTA stores, it was pretty old school Heartland's GAP and Banana are their outlet concept (like Vaughan Mills)

I really hope Eaton Centre could do better than Style Exchange. Next big one for TEC is the JOEY's on Dundas in the old JJ Muggs area

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

I don't think Sporting Life did ANY renovations after they took it off Bretton's hands. It was supposed to be a trial deal and SL got a sweetheart deal, obviously things have worked out for both parties. Its funny, I was sitting waiting for my wife to try something on and I noticed the same...

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Ya, I would love to believe that Brooks does that well...but I don't. Maybe the best in Canada. The merchandise is crazy expensive, the brand means very little to Canadians compared to Harry/Holts offerings and its only open 5 days a week from 10-6. I presume they are in lots of power house US...

    Toronto 335 Yonge | 55.2m | 16s | Lalani | Zeidler

We should be proud that there are so FEW buildings of significance in neglect in Toronto. When I say neglect I mean chronically unoccupied AND their state of repair. If this happened in Detroit, Buffalo, LA, etc there wouldn't be 25 pages of out-cry, newspaper commentaries, etc...it probably...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Its the lands where the driving range was and there is some sort of truck terminal behind. There is room for 2 big boxes 120-150,000sf plus some other buildings.

I love the tent...its the fake plants, Ontario Place lights and cheesy sign that bothers.

I really like the inside of the Sony Centre...I thought it was well done

    Toronto 335 Yonge | 55.2m | 16s | Lalani | Zeidler

There is so much weirdness surrounding this corner. Firstly, it sat vacant for about a year with for lease signs during one of the most robust leasing periods in Yonge-Dundas history. I am sure they had calls weekly from national credit worthy tenants able to afford the exorbitant rent they were...

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

VS/PINK are not going to the food court. Sherway needs to redo that food court and improve all the food offerings in the mall. Given the strength of the retail it could totally handle a Joeys/Moxies/PF Changs type establishment that offers good business lunch as well as the daily female...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Hero is also going into the prime corner spot at Bayview and York Mills. I have no idea how they will ever pay the rents that the plaza demands...but we shall see.

    Bramalea City Centre

The death of the mall is 100% due to the fact that we don't have suitable anchors to drive them. Mall growth continues (at least up till 2008) in the US as they have anchors in expansion mode and offered shopping experiences people actually liked (Nordstroms, Macy's, etc). In Europe, IKEA...

    Bramalea City Centre

In theory, CF, IC and Oxford hold the crown jewels across Canada (Yorkdale, TEC, Pacific Centre, Chinook, etc). If you are retailer X and you want into one of those, you also have to take spaces in Oakville Place, Promenade, etc (within reason). RioCan owns Shoppers World, Timmins Square, Albion...

    Bramalea City Centre

It wasn't a friend looking at it, it was a friend looking at it on behalf of a fund he manages. Oxford and Primaris have a relationship. Primaris spun off from Oxford about a year ago and took a bunch of the B malls with them. Oxford kept all the As.

    Bramalea City Centre

I heard from someone looking at buying it. It may be the Erin Mills Development portion, CF is 50/50. A lot of major malls have changed hands lately. Oxford took Upper Canada, Primaris took Cataraqui, etc. In terms of who has that kind of money to buy a mall, Oxford, Redcliff, Morgaurd, etc...

    Bramalea City Centre

EMTC is for sale so I would think that any reno plans are probably on hold. The other element to the mall hierarchy depends on ownership. CF and Oxford malls survive because they can leverage tenants into the C Malls in order for them to take space in the A Malls. If Cadillac ever dumps the...

    Dead/Decaying Malls of Greater Toronto

Alderwood has great potential. The neigbourhood to the south is gentrifying and totally lacking in decent retail (along with the rest of South Etobicoke for that matter). Alderwood could really be something decent if the owners have the ability to attract a decent food store, LCBO, coffee shop, etc.
