    View from a Pride Float

Seemed to me there were slightly fewer along Yonge - although keep in mind that it was still impossible to get a front-row view of the parade unless you were there hours early. Even half our usual turnout is far bigger than most Pride celebrations elsewhere. The parade is what you make it...

They're all posted on Facebook this year. :)

English people aren't good at english. Wait a minute...

I'm not referring to internet and phone texting abbreviations. As discussed in previous threads on grammar, I'm referring to the inability of so many to figure out basic distinctions such as contractions and possessives. There are real differences in writing ability now vs. when some of the...

Empress Condos (Menkes) - Real Estate -

Did you actually read the post? 1) 3 hours is too restrictive for moving, especially if you have to hang the elevator mats yourself, which you should not. 2) $25 is not a lot, but I'd never heard of a moving fee before this. I think it says a lot about the management company. 3) I...

    Casa 11 Mujeres

That bedroom at the top has a door which opens to a ledge (balcony?) without any type of barrier or handrail. That's insane. I'd like to know what was going through the the architect's mind.

    World's First, Building in Motion

The idea I think is interesting, and the renderings very nice, but the concept of allowing the penthouses independent control will throw the aesthetics off completely. Shame. (That's captialism for you: allow the richest buyers the option of mucking it up for the rest of the population.)...

English people aren't good at english. Wait a minute...

This has nothing to do with slang, nor does it have to do with dialect differences between British English and Canadian English. It has to do with the rules of grammar in writing. People don't speak more poorly than they write; the rules of speech are simply different than the rules of formal...

    View from a Pride Float

I was watching for you! I don't know how I missed you; when my friends got tired and wandered off, I walked up Yonge and then along Bloor looking for your float. I don't know how I missed it. One of our forum members came to my place after the parade wearing one of your necklaces too. :)

Alma College: Why heritage preservation in Ontario doesn't work ...

I happened to stumble upon this story by chance, as I was glancing at the Globe during lunch, the day after the fire. I find it particularly sad, as my mother went to school there, and my parents were married in the chapel.

Canada to deport U.S. army deserter

... which is exactly what is happening now. Clearly you didn't read the posts above, or you simply have a closed mind and are not willing to actually learn what the war resisters campaign is all about. Why is Corey's claim "ridiculous", as you say? I've hear him speak twice in two days...

Canada to deport U.S. army deserter

I just watched the press conference for Corey Glass on Youtube. He was told the only way he would be in combat were if there were foreign troops occupying the US!

Canada to deport U.S. army deserter

Brandon! I was just telling somebody your story last night! I remembered you saying the recruiters wouldn't stop bothering you in high school.

Canada to deport U.S. army deserter

Last night I bought this book. The synopsis alone gives you some idea of the issues:

Canada to deport U.S. army deserter

Actually, it does, if those are your orders. As a soldier, you are not allowed to refuse orders. That's one of the reasons why so many have deserted. I believe the current estimate of the number of deserters in the Iraq is up to 25,000 in the US. In Canada, we have more than a dozen who...

Canada to deport U.S. army deserter

You have to realize that these people were lied to, and the US army reserves the right to do so. A lot of the deserters have similar stories. The enlisted because many come from places where there are no other jobs (what is referred to as the "Economic Draft"), and the army appears to be the...

Irish Couple Moving to Toronto.. Any advice?

Lived in the area for 12 years. It's one of the least culturally diverse areas of Toronto. As I consider the cultural mix to be the strongest feature of the city, I would never consider moving back there. If I were looking for "down to earth", I'd be more inclined to look at the Annex...

Irish Couple Moving to Toronto.. Any advice?

Craigslist is increasingly in the news as it has become a haven for fraud - particularly in apartment rentals. If you have to use it, keep this in mind. Better, if you can, to walk around and when you find an area you like, jot down phone numbers from the rental signs.

Irish Couple Moving to Toronto.. Any advice?

Not everyone in the gay community wants or needs to locate right in the Village, but if you like that feeling of community (as I do) then I'd recommend trying to locate between Bloor (north), Carlton (south), Yonge (west), and Jarvis (east). Regarding the advice not to locate east of Jarvis...

    Battlestar Galactica

Big Spoiler Alert BIG SPOILER ALERT A friend told me last weekend (without asking first if I wanted to hear spoilers) that the show's creator stated that the last cylon is not in the "last supper" promotional photo. Anyone else hear this?

    Is recycling BS?

I remember hearing that, years ago. The worse problem, IMO, is - having worked irregular hours in a couple of offices - seeing cleaning staff dumping the recycling in with the garbage. I wonder how often that happens... That's a really good point.
