    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Ah, in the photo of the yellow bus - I saw the overhead wires of the train station that confused me. Complete understand that you don't need wires for a loooong bus. I'd love to see a Mercedes Benz Citaro CapaCity L on Canadian streets...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I missed this bit of news... Certainly would put to bed any proposals by Transurban/others ... unless the legislation is cleverly worded!

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

On Finch, that ship has sailed my friend. I'd push for it on other routes - but the introduction of trolleybuses like that as part of "bus rapid transit" in Toronto is always going to struggle as due to: the cost of building a new bus yard big enough to service these loooooong buses cost of...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

SEM?! No wonder this extension is crazy expensive. A cut and cover station box would be the cheapest and fastest approach...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

In theory this would make it easier to retrofit grass tracks in future - but it's gonna look real cheap in the interim.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Depends what's cheapest I suppose - the Honolulu trains had bodyshells built in Italy, with final assembly in California to meet Buy America standards. I'm not sure what Canadian content requirements Metrolinx has in the contract...

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

This is excellent news... I'm just frustrated there's been 8 ish years of Liberal government with not a lot of high-speed rail to show for it! Hopefully having big businesses like rolling stock builders, rail operators and major construction companies pushing for the line will help secure the...

    Montréal Transit Developments

An important milestone for the extension of the blue line: The contract for the train control system is awarded I wondered why I'd never heard of "Ground Transportation Systems Inc", it would be worrying for STM to spend $217 million on CBTC with an unknown company... turns out it's just...

Not the third Ontario Line, then?

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

So that's all the major construction contracts either signed, or on the way towards a final agreement being signed. Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance - Hitachi Rail, Transdev, Plenary Americas, and Webuild Southern civils, stations and tunnel - Ferrovial and Vinci Pape tunnel...

    Toronto East Harbour Transit Hub | 14.35m | 1s | Metrolinx | Metrolinx

EA Notice of Completion was posted in December 2023, with a review period until 21 January 2024. Next step would be finding the money to pay for everything (well, the bits not paid for by the developer, anyway)

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Basically we need to move away from using fossil fuels if we are to meet our Climate targets. I've don't have a beef with hydrogen - there are positive and negatives, it has to be used for the best purposes. Hydrogen burns clean, but most of the climate impact is during production. It's also...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Well it certainly doesn't commit anyone to an underground extension to Brampton, that's for sure

    Toronto Downsview West District | ?m | ?s | CLC

Not at all! I'm an urban planner by trade in London - specifically, I write planning policy. I did a exchange year at TMU in 2012/13, really enjoyed my time living in Toronto, and I have strong connections to friends in the GTHA. Been back several times (including for months at a time!), but...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Yes I agree in this particular case it would be "express 401" - I just don't want Transurban getting any ideas!

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The other thing that worries me about companies like Transurban, given what they've been doing in Sydney and Brisbane - is that it's urban highways 2.0. They just happen to be underground, thereby "solving" the problem of needing to demolish vast swathes of inner city housing to build highways...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Presentation boards from this event FYI Nothing really of note - other than "We expect to name a successful bidder [for the Advance Tunnel] in late 2024"

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Just a shame that building an empty station box (like Hume in Singapore or Kwu Tung in Hong Kong) is so expensive... You have all the expense of design and engineering, digging the box, putting in place structural elements... with no benefits of an open station.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Ah, intriguing - I knew Transurban had US tolled roads (well, HOT lanes), but I didn't know they had bought the A25 in Montreal! So they've clearly got some Canadian presence already. Interesting. Their latest investor pack does note "Future traditional toll road and Express Lanes acquisition...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Given that Sheppard Avenue will become a high capacity subway line before long, I doubt that this would be a good idea.
