    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

If the border is moved to the 407, then the yard will be in Mississauga. The province should just move the border and fund it up to the yard. Brampton will get it when they sort out their issues. The province can't let municipalities walk all over the plans.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Then you pay cash fare, which works the old fashioned way--it's tied to whatever system you use.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Does it really need to take 15 years? Planning work on Ottawa's downtown LRT began in 2008 and completed in 2011, bidding started in 2011, the contract was awarded in December 2012, construction began in the summer of 2013 and its projected to open by spring 2018 (and it's currently ahead of...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Yes. They have to buy STO fare media instead. Its because they don't want fare prices tied to where you're getting on the bus... they want them tied to residency. Ontario residents pay Ottawa fare in both cities, Quebec residents pay Gatineau fare in both cities.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The first smart card transit system in Canada was the STO in Gatineau, Quebec who introduced their Passe-Partout Plus card in 1998. Interestingly enough the Passe-Partout Plus technology was replaced with a new version in 2012-13 to, among other things, be compatable with PRESTO due to the...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The province already uses a mix of ridership and population to determine how much gas tax money to allocate to transit agencies.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Many of Ottawa's local bus routes have an average 200m stop spacing. There's several stretches where there's at least 8 stops in a single kilometre. One reason why stops are so frequent is accessibility concerns. An extra 200m walk doesn't sound that bad to me or you, but for a heavily pregnant...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Sounds similar to Ottawa's Confederation LRT. Effectively, a subway system with LRT technology. More evidence that subway vs. LRT is a false dichotomy.

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Now that's a problem we don't usually have. OH NO our transit system is too large! ;)

Another problem with the use of red & green is colourblindness... about in 1 in 40 people can't distinguish between red & green unless certain shades are chosen.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Exaggeration much? VIA provides very good intercity service between Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, and Montreal. It's frequent (bihourly), affordable, fast and it's almost always on time. I'm a regular, I've taken VIA dozens of times in the past 5 years and only once has it ever been more than 10...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Especially with LRT coming. Are we honestly going to accept having this problem on the Crosstown? St. Clair & Spadina need full signal priority at every intersection, except in extreme cases where headways get very tight. City Council needs to order Transportation Service to shut up and do it.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

And this is why the TTC really needs to move to standard 2 hour transfers. The existing transfer system can be complicated especially for a tourist.

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Jokes aside, I can honestly see Kirby Rd having a GO RER station. I believe its within Vaughan's urban expansion lands, and its about halfway between two existing GO stations (Maple & King City). Imagine if we did strike a deal with Nintendo to have it a Kirby themed station... it would honestly...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Except this guy's goal is to help travel between Kingston and Toronto... and to draw Torontonian tourists to Kingston. Both things that VIA currently does decently well. This guy, Rick Downes, is a perennial loser in Kingston politics. He's a councillor but is always trying to move up, he's...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Theoretically, that could be changed via changes to federal & provincial law. I'm not sure who it would fall under (feds? province? I want to say the former), but theoretically whoever it is could pass a law declaring the 407 an exception to the normal rules of property rights, and order the...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The province can expropriate it. Given the value of the asset, though, that would cost a lot and could take 10-20 years to regain. Still, we should do it. As time marches on, that expropriation will get cheaper, though. As 2098 gets closer and the value of the lease drops, its corresponding...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Thanks for the response everyone, it all makes sense now. I wonder if with the 407 extension & Pickering Airport in the works, Durham will start to grow more. One thing that I find interesting looking at Toronto's transit plans is that there seems to be no rapid transit of any kind between...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Can I ask a question? I'm not from Toronto and my experience with the city is pretty low (I'm an onlooker from Kingston). Why is Durham so low profile in Toronto? People seem to always talk about Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, etc. but nobody really talks about Pickering or Ajax. On this...
