Do we have a better source than Jennifer Keesmaat? Reading that BNN article again I realize that this is all just anecdotal evidence provided by Keesmaat. Is there a link to a bank or industry source that can provide numbers and reliable information?

To be clear, this article does not say anything specific. In it Keesmaat says, “However, it has now been 'sitting' for three years, as the developer is trying to pull together the builder and the funding to make it a reality.” That's not really much information to make assumptions.

Having some tall buildings in the right context is cool, but I really don't care about how tall things are anymore. It's gotten boring. Toronto's best urban environments are not its tallest. Would central Paris benefit by building skyscrapers everywhere? Does Shibuya, Tokyo need to be taller...

This building is ugly, and I'd rather see it torn down and replaced with something new. I'm hoping the cladding improves it, but I'm not counting on it.

And also overstated its size by making the same mistake I pointed out above.

Regarding the front page story, it should be pointed out (again) that the actual square footage of the retail is smaller than the figure stated in the story. That number does not represent leaseable area, which is the number that malls use. So it cannot be compared to the big malls in the city.

I laughed at that too. I might have sympathized with them if they described it as an annoyance, which I imagine it is.
