    Toronto X The Condominium | ?m | 44s | Great Gulf | a—A

Notice how it mimics the Parliament Buildings. Pizza Pizza's 2 storey head office is on the southwest corner of Charles and Jarvis. They also own the adjacent houses. Keep your eye on all those properties for redevelopment. There is a possibility that the X Condo could become land-locked within...

1 Bloor East, DEAD AND BURIED (Bazis, -2s, Varacalli)

Re: Maintenance fees. There's a fascinating "nickel and dimeing" developing, which I first noticed with the new condo at the Distillery District (i.e., parking maintenance fee). Another project (perhaps 500 Sherbourne) also charges a locker maintenance fee. Fees, fees, and more fees. One could...

1 Bloor East, DEAD AND BURIED (Bazis, -2s, Varacalli)

All the 1 bedroom units at Tridel's James Cooper Mansion "sold out" quickly. Similarly, all the 2 br units on the southwest corner of the X-condo above 16 storeys (i.e., 16-44) were mysteriously unavailable on the day the building opened to the public (actually, the so-called "preview" BEFORE...

    Enwave Deep Lake Water Cooling

I read somewhere that the practical northern limit of the deepwater cooling pipes was Wellesley Street (i.e., happily, just reaching Queen's Park). The capacity is limited by the water treatment plant on Toronto Island. If the city were to increase its capacity, Enwave could service a larger...

    Toronto X The Condominium | ?m | 44s | Great Gulf | a—A

On Feb, 17, 2007, shortly before the X condo sales office closed, the suite availability board indicated that 261 of 403 units had been sold. This works out to 65%. Allison Harness wrote in The Star on September 1, 2007 that 56% of the units have been sold...

    Toronto X The Condominium | ?m | 44s | Great Gulf | a—A

Status: Of 160 shoring beams, 30 remain as of Tuesday morning, November 6. They are averaging 3 a day Monday-Friday. At this rate, they should finish by the end of next week, and the the "Big Dig" can start. The big crane is scheduled to arrive the end of January. The sales office is...

1 Bloor East, DEAD AND BURIED (Bazis, -2s, Varacalli)

To me, the best news is that the developer now has the Bank of Nova Scotia property on the southwest corner. The bank was so reluctant that the earlier plans for 1 Bloor East did not include that property. When one owner refuses to sell, just look at One City Hall.

Scramble Crossings (City of Toronto) (Yonge/Dundas, Yonge/Bloor, Bay/Bloor)

The so-called "scramble crossings" were in common use in Fredericton decades ago. They were simple and convenient for pedestrians. Wait for the white lights. Then cross anywhere. It was fun to cross diagonally.

    Toronto Couture The Condominium | ?m | 42s | Philmor | Graziani + Corazza

It's official: 44 storeys. Those who bought a north-facing unit in the X condo may be feeling a bit uneasy... "Monarch will soon make a bold architectural statement at Bloor and Jarvis in downtown Toronto with their 44 storey condominium, Couture." - from a promotional e-mail Anyone have a...

1 Bloor East, DEAD AND BURIED (Bazis, -2s, Varacalli)

I walked through Roy Square this afternoon and noticed that some of the stores are already vacant. Happily, my favourite dry cleaner (and clothes repairer) is relocating in one of the stores by the Hayden parking garage!

    Toronto Casa | 147.52m | 46s | Cresford | a—A

I'm glad someone took the pictures. It was so slow getting underway this morning that I quit watching.

    Toronto X The Condominium | ?m | 44s | Great Gulf | a—A

A construction worker told me this morning (Oct 3) that they will be installing shoring beams for another 6 weeks. I learned earlier that the big crane is scheduled to go up in late January.

    Toronto X The Condominium | ?m | 44s | Great Gulf | a—A

What I consider an illegal parking lot off Hayden is conveniently considered a "staging area". It is supposed to become a "publicly-accessible private open space" according to Kyle Rae. Stage 2 has been delayed a long time, but we've had that staging area raring to go! Thanks, Philmor!

    Toronto Studio and Studio2 on Richmond | 131.06m | 41s | Aspen Ridge | BDP Quadrangle

It's encouraging that Aspen Ridge is involved. They are developing the VU Condo at Jarvis and Adelaide, arguably one of the nicer-looking projects, They also promote sustainable (i.e. green) buildings. In short, it's great news for the King/Spadina area.

Concrete blocks on a plastic tarp now. Lego for grownups. Oh boy! Let's see what comes next! Instant sales office, pre-assembled?

    Toronto Casa | 147.52m | 46s | Cresford | a—A

I wonder why this project has 3 levels of parking but the X Condo has 6. Both condos are 44 stories and have roughly the same number and mix of units. I don't think the site dimensions vary that much either. I also think the prices are similar. It's rather a dramatic difference, and they are...

    Toronto Couture The Condominium | ?m | 42s | Philmor | Graziani + Corazza

I am curious to see if the building will be set back farther from the street to integrate better with the X Condo, like the twin towers of Radio City. The parkette as I understand it is supposed to be where the illegal parking lot of Phase 1 is now.
