IF it is maintenance, it could still be design. Maintenance procedures and instructions are actually part of the design, but are often skipped/done poorly to save cost (and the Ottawa LRT was very tight fisted with the money, which can be another issue in not having enough spares/extra trains...
It's right on the humber river trail and next to lots of tall residential buildings both along Eglington and Scarlet. Makes perfect sense to put a stop here....
If your headway is low enough, street crossings far enough apart, etc, I agree it can work just fine. A quick look at Denver LRT and the shortest headway I found was 10 minutes with most 15 or 30 minutes, and at that length of headway (and more spread out western city/int he burbs), signal...
This is because "transit priority" is management/politician dream compromise but an engineering nightmare. Train signaling on its own is hard - see basically every new transit line anywhere at the start, adding in this type of constraint just makes it worse (i.e., money and testing on signaling...
Thats not the point, building that and only that type of transit on this line is ok. It is the combo of the better section vs the East part that makes this a transit version of a STROAD.
Is this not the public transit equivalent of a STROAD? Part is rapid, grade separated transit with associated station spacing, part is at grade with road crossings and close to street car station spacing. Even ignoring the difficulty of signaling priority, this already seems unworkable to...
I don't see what you are objecting too. People from outside the GTA can pay the toll too, or change there trip plans, etc. Adding to the cost of private car transport for long distances also makes the train/bus more attractive, which achieves the same things. I have driven from Waterloo to...
The 407 toll during rush hour(s) is appropriate to ensure a good travel speed - i.e., the 407 is as busy as it can get without having traffic jams (which still occur in bad weather). I suspect you would need a similar toll rate on the 401 to achieve the same results, but this should be done...
I don't get what they were smoking when they designed the end of that going north. Even when they open the HOV lane, they have created an unreal bottleneck which is worse than before they expanded anything.
There is no chance of running LRT along the Canal as that is controlled by the National Capital Commission who almost blocked Phase 2 of the LRT in a far less scenic/touristy area and is the type of organization that would take 5 years to determine the colour of the sky.
The 2016 Ottawa number is likely heavily influenced by the LRT construction which, by using the transitway, harmed the level of service. Another hidden downside/cost of the BRT to LRT conversion.
It is far more than a retrofit, and most structures/overpasses have been re-done, all the stations are brand new, etc and the alignment is subtlety different in many places. This is even more-so the case for Phase 2, where the transitway went along a freeway in the east and used things like the...
The article is quoting him from during the election, advocating for an improvement in his riding for a better link to the major urban center in the region (Ottawa). I would be surprised if all candidates in this riding would have had a different position (including the Liberal).
This section of the 401 never goes green on google maps during the entire day - and I think the ROW is maxed out. So a short bi-level section makes sense here.
