Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Talking to the crew while on the PBX they had mentioned there is some sort of requirement to start it by a certain date or there could be some sort of repercussions. Whether it is true or not, and what those repercussions are, I do not know.
May 24 is when cottages open so that's likely when they would want the service to start.

It's geard to who ever will use it.

I would look to fall, when driving starts to get iffy.

They will need the summer to get the shovels going. And to bring staff on board.

Cottage traffic is not going to start out heavy, and the train has to play to the North when it opens and not to rich Torontonians in their summer recreation properties (although that market will be very helpful as things progress).

Maybe Labour Day when kids start coming back to school....although those trips often require Dad's pickup to bring furniture and belongings south to set up the student apartment. Maybe home for Thanksgiving works better.

Chad Evans' head on a pike at the tower gate? (He's the CEO).

I don't know if I have read it and can't be bothered to look but for some reason July 2026 sticks in my mind.

Maybe that is the date that it "must" be running by.

TBH,I have worked at enough places with rumor mills that work working well. My thinking is that they want it open as soon as they can, but they want it open with all stations completed and the politicians have their photo ops in front of all finished stations.

Do we have a route map and schedule yet?
Multiple posts dating back many months, plus their website

The rumour mill at the worker level can take on a life of its own. In government, 'hard dates' tend to be fairly flexible, particularly when it involves elements outside of its control (i.e. CN). I imagine they want it open as soon as practicable but not so soon as to be unreliable or providing a poor customer experience. That can be hard to shake.

The performance and reliability issues that VIA is going through right now must be keeping somebody at the ONR up at night.

.... yeah, it is almost a joke now. The issue is in Northern ON, not much cell service and far from civilization.

Are there any concerns regarding the Siemens Charger's ability to handle the cold weather of Northern Ontario? Both Amtrak and VIA have had issues with their Charger's in cold weather. These Siemens Chargers will experience some of the coldest weather in Northern Ontario.
