Level 4 cladding and glazing on the King Street facade. With much of the interior courtyard and the west wall Level 4 curtain wall now done, once the King Street side has been finished that would basically leave the south facade which in the past has been much faster than the other walls.. Hopefully Level 4 will be substantially complete by the end of October.

@RyanD - must have just missed you - our photos look to have been taken about the same time.

I feel like this one is going to end up being more controversial than I would have expected, sort of like the ROM crystal.

Personally I was hesitant when I saw the first cladding, but now that I've seen a few levels of it stacked and the cubes take shape - I love it. It's unique, high quality, makes you stop and look. Even if no greenery happens (though I hope it does), I think this building will be iconic.
I think the ROM crystal went crazy with the cladding as with the design. Here though, the cladding is much more reserved...so I suspect a lot less controversy when all is said and done.

King Toronto updates from the past few days. Progress continues to be made on the cladding and glazing - but with the occasional instance of fits and starts. Concrete forming is not an entirely precise process, with wooden forms placed manually in position for each pour on site, in varying weather conditions. Fabrication of the cladding sections is done on a much more precise basis, it's metal work in (relatively speaking) good stable conditions inside a workshop. The two processes are guided by different sets of drawings, both of which are derived from the architectural drawings and specifications. The shop drawings for the cladding components are prepared independent of the forming process - they are not based on the actual as built conditions, with the preparation of the workshop drawings being outsourced to a off-site sub-contractor. Consequently, variations between the formed concrete and the manufactured cladding sections can, and do occur - in particular with the alignment of the respective mounting brackets.

On Tuesday afternoon, the cladding crew was obviously struggling a bit with one section, which just did not seem to want to anchor with the concrete. The next morning, Wednesday, the problematic section was no longer in place. Further along, the cladding crew could be seen at ground level, making adjustments to a cladding section - presumably the one they had been having problems with late the day before. By Wednesday afternoon, the problems appeared to be resolved, the section had been installed, along with several more. Photos below.

Overall - Level 4 cladding and glazing appears to have been completed in much of the internal courtyard (crane and hoist areas excepted), much of the King Street facade, except for the east most section, and much (but not all) of the west facade, above the drive ramp. The major area remaining for the Level 4 cladding is the south (Wellington Street side) facade. Installation of the Level 3 cladding along this section actually went quite quickly with few problems, until reaching the south-east corner sections (from the walk-through to Wellington Street area to the sout-east corner itself, so hopefully the Level 4 cladding will proceed smoothly here as well. Pretty much the entire Level 4 south facade is more typical and repetitive, does not have the one-off conditions that the Level 3 facade had above the walk-through area and on to the south-east corner.

Some additional deliveries of the cladding and glazing components continued to arrive over the past week.

Given the above - assuming no major glitches and that all the required Level 4 components are now on site - hopefully the Level 4 cladding will be substantially complete over the next couple of weeks, and the Level 5 cladding will be starting.

New deliveries - Both tower cranes were working on Wednesday morning - not too common and event over the past months:

End of the week photos are in the next post.

^Er...what's going on there?
Seems like the darker section has no backing, so you're seeing through the bricks into the darker space behind. AHK has some photos of these sections being unloaded.
Afternoon update - the cladding and glazing crew has been working all day on the Level 4 west facade - still going in the late afternoon. Some action photos of cladding work in progress, with a section being lifted from the staging area in the courtyard, around the front of the building, to its installation point on the west facade.

Later in the afternoon - from our terrace, the tower crane was still hoisting cladding sections into position on the west facade. It will be a major milestone, at least for us, when the cladding reaches the level of being visible from our place.

October 29 - Two updates (posts) follow. This one covers photos from Monday, October 27, and the next one from earlier today (Wednesday, October 29)

Monday morning - the cladding crew was working on the north west corner Level 4. Also a couple of pictures of the former Early Mercy building - now being used as a receiving / storage area for King Toronto interior furnishings - being painted in the Allied Green.

Monday late afternoon - a look at the completed Level 4 cladding in the north-west corner of the building.

Cladding installation on the south facade, facing Wellington Street, started on Tuesday morning The following post shows progress to Wednesday afternoon, around 3:15 PM (the cladding crew was still working at the time). Based on the progress to date - it looks like the cladding activities may be able to start on Level 5 sometime in the next couple of weeks - during the first half of November (assuming Level 5 materials are available on site). If past is any precedent, the Level 5 activities will start in the interior courtyard, so they may not be initially visible from the perimeter of site.
