Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | Metrolinx

If I'm working on a project for a client, I can't just show them "progress" and then deliver a final product that's substantially different than what I showed. It's a waste of everyone's time.
Unfortunately, the public are very lowly valued stakeholders in this, which is a shame. We aren’t seeing progressive design iterations and providing feedback the same way the “clients” are. The final product won’t be a sudden, unpleasant surprise for Metrolinx as they directly influence the designs, especially to be VE’d.

Again, it's a P3. The problem isn't presenting early designs, it's people not understanding what they're looking at.

I agree, for example, that it's silly Metrolinx and IO don't coordinate so Metrolinx releases renders of station exteriors that will ultimately actually be within a TOC. It is kinda a waste of time.

But in this case, they serve as a testimony of where the design is at and there won't be any actual renders from the P3 partner for probably a couple of years so I just take it for what it is.

I think you're right. And I also mentioned the lack of PSDs. That would be a major omission from a render if they were actually part of the spec.

IO Market Update - October 2025

This is the last active procurement project from Ford's original transit expansion vision from April 2019. What a long way we have come. Time for the next batch of projects to make it to active procurement. Sheppard Extension, EGW LRT Airport Extension, Ontario Line North Extension, EG LRT East Extension

Yonge North Subway Extension -Stations, Rail and Systems

RFP Apr - Jun 2026
Contract Execution - ADA: Apr - Jun2027 PAA: Apr - Jun 2029

Looks like work has officially begun on the launch shaft!

They started mobilizing there by the time the contract was announced.

I haven't had a chance to go by and get pictures but you can see the cranes etc driving by, from Yonge, 7 or 407 and you can get a decent ground-level view of the work from the GO lot on Langataf.

bringing that photo forward - This is the first I've seen of substantial construction on the yonge subway extension.

that "open cut" is actually the underpass under the 407. That subway platform is going to be incredibly loud being open air and sitting below 10 lanes of freeway with cars doing 120-140km/h.
Is that 3rd render an image of High Tech or Bridge Centre? If its the former then that's not the station that will be under the 407.

"Drewy" Station confirmed by real estate agent
No it's not confirmed, and it's not going ahead due to Metrolinx' and the provincial government's stupidity.

This agent is using a false promise, to market the property to inflate the value. Nothing more, nothing less. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how one looks at it), someone may get suckered into it due to the false premise.

The current design for the storage yard does not look like it would allow for an extension to 16th or anywhere north without ripping out half the facility. Only one of the three tracks doesnt pass through the transportation building and they'd have to build a lot of additional storage track if they put two of the three planned tracks in service. Am i mistaken or missing something?

An extension to 16th won't be happening, and you can see why in the picture - There are several million dollars worth of BRT infastructure and stations already between Richmond Hill centre and 16th avenue which would be rendered redundant if the line extended to 16th - They didn`t continue that BRT south towards finch because they knew an extension to RHC would be coming

However, when they built the VIVA BRT they made sure the station size and bus lanes were large enough to support a potential future conversion to LRT so you can look forward to that if it ever happens - You could have a nice PATH inspired walkway between the TTC terminus and the YRT LRT and riders would be able to make a smooth transfer and go north up to Newmarket
