View of Annette, with Victoria (Church) Lofts reflected from one of my favourite Toronto residential streets: Medland

Will they allow me to join this Masonic Lodge? (I'll get a better photo someday.)

Annette has quite a few interesting lowrise apartment buildings...like

Really good coffee in the West End: Annette just East of Runnymede

Believe it or not, but this is one of my dream homes! :)

There's something clean and simple about this church I like that reflects its Scottish roots.

Annette is like a sleepier version of Roncevalles: Retail strips suddenly give way to residential and institutional uses. With time, will it be as vibrant and cool as Roncevalles?

Shabby chic redefined!

Annette St has many churches: this is an interesting modern RC church. Is Annette Toronto's "real" church st?

Condo townhouse development on Annette near Jane: ugly!

Wow look at all the pedestrians! Yet it's still better than "downtown" Mississauga, eh? Java Joes: haven't been there ... yet.

Hard to believe that just West of this intersection the millionaires of Baby Point dwell!

Cool. That's one part of the city that rarely gets photographed on here.

I think one of the churches on Annette (Victoria Royce it may be called) is being turned into lofts. I think it may be closer to Dundas though.

Good photos. It's a neighbourhood that hasn't changed a lot since it was built in the 1920s.

Those townhouses are certainly a bit jarring however. They are the "generic small infill townhouse development", not much different from others in other neighbourhoods.

St. James Catholic Church's is definitely interesting with its modern architecture. Inside it's very wide, composed of a room that has many walls creating at least a pentagon, with spotlights and domed skylight. There was also another church along St. John's Road, which was demolished for townhouses. Those "ugly" condo townhouses replaced a Biway I believe. Those who are cheap might lament that loss.

I suppose the continuation will be east of Runnymede, which is the logical continuation ;). There will be many churches, such as the Czechoslovakian Baptist Church, High Park Korean United Church, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, the Keele Street Christian Church, and a bit north of Annette and Dundas, the Polish Baptist Church. There's also a Masonic Temple along there.

Thanks for the pics.

Annette Street is my favourite route to get to the Humber River bike trail.

This whole area really is quite beautiful and does feel wonderfully "untouched".

Up through the 70s, at least, it also had a huge transmission-tower-like openwork "steeple" atop the vestibule...

I used to live a couple of houses north of Annette, as a teenager. What I miss most are the trolley buses.
A one time there were CIBC bank branches at Runnymede and Annette, as well as one at Jane and Annette. The bank closed them both. That left the seniors and handicapped with having to use cars (if they still have driver licenses) or the bus on a special trip to get to a branch.

UD, you're right about Victoria Royce being on Annette. I think it's the 3rd Presbyterian church in the area to close for either demolition or conversion into condos.

Annette street is a wonderful hodgepodge of buildings, and a favourite of mine too. Thanks for the photos!

There were plans for an Dupont streetcar extension to go along Annette Street to Jane Street, which never happened.
However, Fairview Avenue, which begins at Western Tech (Evelyn Crescent) and goes north to St. John's, about 2 or 3 blocks east of Runnymede, did have a streetcar running up it towards Keele and Dundas.
This is a 1903 view of the area south of Annette Street, at Fairview and Evelyn. About time it was was paved.

And another view around 1923.

I was going to say that the only thing that would make the street even more charming and awesome would be a streetcar line...
