What I Miss About Toronto In 60's

In the 1960's, as a teenager, we rode our bicycles in the "wrong" direction of one-way streets. Even passing police cars, no hassle. "Stop" signs were for motor vehicles, not bicycles. Helmets? What for?

The bad part was the sewer grates were parallel to the curb, catching tires sometimes. I think it was in the 1980's that the herringbone design started to appear to fix that problem. In the meantime, they sometimes would twist the sewer grates so that they were right angles to the curb.

No such thing as TicketMaster!

You actually had to get down to Maple Leaf Gardens and buy tickets for cash... and actually get them.

I should mention the places of my education:
-Huron Street Public School, kindergarten to Grade 6
-Jesse Ketchum School Grades 7 and 8
-Jarvis Collegiate Grades 9-12

Oh and the Toronto Island Science School 1 week in March, 1966

I remember getting (AKA buying) from my local Loblaws store, each of the volumes of the Golden Book Encyclopedia. That got me serious about reading by age nine or ten.

These books look fun. Too bad no new editions were printed even a decade before Wikipedia's establishment.
