I lived in the Vic Park/Lawrence area for about a year. I found it incredibly horrible. A land of strip malls, abandoned storefronts and more strip malls. I really hope it has changed, but I don't have much faith.

One interesting thing there is, I think, Toronto's first KFC (which may still be there--though it lost its retro sign a few years ago)

Was it on Lawrence, just a bit East of Vic Park on the North side? I went there a couple of times, if so.

Yup, in a strip mall as opposed to freestanding...

I worked just west of that intersection for two years until recently. I really, really can't think of anything good to say. I do however find the Scarborough side far more interesting than the North York side. That stretch of Lawrence may be ugly, but the ethnic retail is amazingly varied and vital.

I also need to send out a recommendation for The Armenian Kitchen which is located on Victoria Park a few blocks south of Lawrence.
