Uptown Waterloo grows Up

Not shown are some of the condo developments suddenly sprouting up in this area (www.bauerbuildings.com), designed by some great firms. A new one, the42 (www.the42.ca) is designed by a Toronto architect in Toronto style. Also, news is just coming out that a Westin Hotel will soon grace our Uptown skyline.

Even when I see them in person, the Seagram Lofts seem like a fake cut out to me.

Two developments info. is just starting to come out about:

1.) the42

2.) A Westin hotel on a narrow site zoned for up to 12 floors.

Uptown Waterloo is definitely one of the brightest points when it comes to mid-sized urban cores in Ontario over the past few years. It's been improving by leaps and bounds and I'm really excited to see what these new developments bring.. I'm still trying to pinpoint exactly where 42 will be though. I'm guessing on the old Mennonite Store on the north side west of the creek?

Bauer Lofts update (12 April 2008)

Just stumbled on this thread ... great photo tour of uptown. The Bauer lofts have come a long way since, they're working on the 9th floor now ...

The42 did very well with their sales, most units sold on opening weekend .. I bought one myself! So excited that i decided to blog about the whole experience .. check it out if your interested: http://kdubcondo.blogspot.com

And Waterloo Region has short-listed two routes for their rapid transit. There are meetings this month to present them:

One is a BRT and the other is LRT.

The Westin was one of the most exciting projects, but unfortunately it seems to have fallen through in a dispute over who would build a parking garage (the city or the developer).

It hasn't fallen through, no way. It'll happen- it's just a matter of timing. We need the developer to cough up some more cash for the parking structure and then it will be built.

From King and Union St, Bauer lofts nicely bookends the street (it bends though.)

It was very quiet in uptown Father's Day, but worthwhile: the girls, compared to Toronto women, are easy to pick up, and arguably, more attractive.
