TTC Subway Station Construction/Modernization

Why do you need one screen to do all things?
TransLink has 2 sets of screens on platforms now (2021 upgrades).
I far prefer this approach, too. One set of simple to read, consistently formatted screens showing the upcoming trains, their destinations, and time to arrival. A second set of TV screens with rolling announcements and ad reels (i.e. ancillary revenue), and functionality to show operational updates. The TTC ones look like the overly busy TVs you see in airport waiting lounges with manically scrolling chyrons, talking heads, market info, ads, weather, sports highlights, and, maybe, occasionally, some airport news.

I just object to the whole situation where budget-constrained transit systems need to depend on ancillary revenue. As a result, the character of the transit system is increasingly compromised. It was one thing to have ads in stations and on vehicles, including large ads on the side and rear. But there's a continuous arms race to more completely dominate the vehicle, culminating with full-bus/streetcar/train wraps that cover the windows. That's unconscionable, and you just know the TTC, GO, etc., are not getting anywhere near fair market value for attention-commanding billboard-sized ad space in the most high-prized locations of the city. If the character of our public spaces and institutions doesn't matter a damn, why not put up a row of billboards in front of schools and civic buildings, too, and encircle parks with ad-covered hoarding?

Noticed new-ish wall panelling at Queens Park Station. Hoping it comes to St. Patrick Station soon.

Pictures please.

My recollection was that they were going to put in faux vitrolite. Is that what you're seeing?

Looks like they may be finally changing out the lighting at St Andrew Station. The original LED hasn’t aged well and the station has been really dark the past few years.

I appreciate it being brighter, but I find the TTC standard V-Shaped lighting some of the least appealing about Metros around the world. There are many more attractive choices available.

I prefer the uplighters found at Gants Hill and St Johns Wood in London, UK. I believe they also have Chandaliers in Moscow.

More up on my site
They have closed the entrance to Islington Station on the westside on September 21 and riders must use the east side entrance. See very little new for the new entrace and still see nothing for the new terminal

Queen's Park Station
Those hoping for St Andrew Station rebuilt will have to wait until 2028 after St Patrick Station is nearing completeion. Since Line was sucking badly as well Line 2, I did not shoot St. Patrick Station but will do so in the coming days. Most of the far walls are almost complete with supports being place on the platforms wall with the station competed in 2026, With Queen's Park nearing comletion allows the removal of St. Patrick Station panels that will be follow by the same type of construction of Queen's Park in a different colour.

The platform side wall above seems to now have horizontal slats that remind me of the ceiling slats the TTC so despises...... have to wait for the finished product, but I'm neither taken by it on its own, nor do I think it matches up well w/the older style of tile on the trackside wall.

I hope those trackside walls are going to get cleaned properly!

I would express disappointment overall.........this was an extremely expensive reno, and has taken years, but i think it will leave us with a station that aesthetically, is at best, no better than it was, may arguably be worse.

Meanwhile they didn't take the opportunity here to add a second exit to the south or the north which would have at least made the station more functional/convenient.

I’m not sure what’s going on with those long metal pieces, but I’m pretty sure I saw the same panels from the trackside wall used on a section of the platform wall when I was there a couple months ago. I remember them being new panels and not left over old ones.
