TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Last edited:
This is some nice PR to see. There is a fully decorated streetcar too.

There are supposed to be 3 streetcars decorated.

Cool looking inside and out, A real step up for TTC on the subway train.

TTC was having a bad day from 7:00 am to when I left the system at 11:00 am. No service between Eglinton and Old Mill still on going when I left the system.

Couple unedited shots with more to come along with some videos. Having major issues with Flickr for uploading photos as they are being refused to do so for some unknown reason with no response from Flickr as to why.

I was right. Line 5 Eglinton is completely cooked. Assuming 12 minutes recovery time at terminuses. The round trip is in fact 100 minutes, or 50 minutes end-to-end. Not 38 minutes as advertised.

***Breaking News***
- Myers: what is the estimated run time for Line 5. TTC staff: contractual number for round trip time is 98 minutes during rush hour and 90 minutes outside rush hour
- The current schedule we have for RSD is currently scheduling 112 minutes round trip
- Myers: are there any measures being considered to speed up the runtime? TTC staff: Any moves would have to be done in consideration with Mosaic and Metrolinx. At this point in time cannot say there are alternatives being discussed.

Let's get the facts straight, a 34 bus travelling at 15.2 km/h beat the Line 5 Eglinton east of Victoria Park (O'Connor). The 34 bus had up to 10 stops before Kennedy, while Line 5 had 5 mandatory stops. 3.3/(13/60)= 15.2 km/h.

More to the point, the eastern mostly-at-grade section of Line 5 Eglinton is 7.7 km long. If Line 5 manages even 15 km/h speeds, that would imply a 30.8 minute travel time for that section. (7.7/15)*60=30.8 minutes; This is entirely congruent with my earlier estimate of 30 minutes for the eastern section (see previous post).

Combine that with the 21 minutes for the underground section (Source; @smallspy ), that's a total end-to-end time of ~51 minutes.
Therefore, Line 5 east of the Brentcliffe tunnel portal should take at least 30 minutes if operated like Line 6.
Total end-to-end trip times on Line 5 Eglinton should be 51 minutes for 19km for an average of 22.35 km/h.

I am calling it right now, there is NO way Line 5 will be 42 minutes end-to-end, much less 38 minutes if operated like Line 6 on opening day. It won't be any faster than 50 minutes until operations significantly improve, if ever.

If you look at the way, the area is set up. You can’t really go north without making a left term.
That section of Lansdowne north of College is entirely residential on a single-lane in each direction street. If there's enough of a backup that it's blocking streetcars, it's people using it as a through street up to Bloor. Use Dundas (four lanes) up to Bloor instead. 'Nuff said.

Submit a request to traffic service to block the turn then? Most of downtown it's blocked during daytime hours

Putting makeup & lipstick on a pig won't make the TRs any less bland. Hope they don't use this makeover as an excuse to preserve that specific set (607X has seen a lot of different wraps before this), even if this one were permanent (which I assume it's not).

New display and announcement programming is rolling out on the TRs.
Notable changes:
- Full use of second display line to indicate transfers to other agencies or Subway/LRT lines (full name of the line is used as opposed to just Line #).
- Doors opening announcement happen twice, once when announcing next station and upon arrival.
- Doors opening text is in green along with the arrows which now flash instead of scrolling.
- Doors closing text is in red along with the arrows.
- Last station is referred to as the “Final station” as opposed to the “terminal station”
- TMU and Cedarvale stations now used.

I also noticed over the past week that as part of this update, the Rocket trains (at least on Line 1) also show the line number before the destination on the signs at each end of the train - i.e. "1 Finch".
