TTC: Other Items (catch all)

^ In all fairness, it would seem there's a stream meant to display on it that's not available at this time. What's notable for me is the ceiling height, more ample than one would remember, but it might be a problem for some basketball players to clear the bottom of the display.

Now the big question: Is that to display TTC and public service info only, or ads, or both?

Bad news for John Tory in today's budget--and I hope the Scarborough RT doesn't break down anytime soon.

City staff say the reversal of increased gas tax funds from the province is a cut of $1.1B over 10 years - $585M of which was already budgeted in TTC capital plan for state of good repair projects.

The Feds giveth, and the Ford taketh away:

I can’t find a reference right now but there was speculation that the province would simply claw back its gas tax transfer once the feds upped theirs. Not saying it’s a good situation for the city, just saying it isn’t completely surprising.

I think I saw it mentioned somewhere that they don't intend to put advertising on them. However some of the information they do put up isn't necessary and as was pointed out at a board meeting by a member of the public could be dangerous, putting up employees numbers in the signs, I don't get why we need to know what employees are driving the bus for.

Might end up being somewhat similar to what the MTA has.

Could this happen on a TTC streetcar or light rail? From link.

Passengers enjoy mugs of draft beer Thursday aboard a special Nagasaki streetcar that runs around the city serving beer and other beverages.

Nagasaki Electric Tramway Co. is again offering passengers the chance to down a beer while enjoying the city’s landscape from the safety of a specially designed electric tram.

The annual service by the private streetcar operator is ¥3,000 for a 90-minute ride.

With counter seats facing the windows, passengers are allowed to drink all they want from a range of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and even enjoy a meal. The car will run the Nagasaki city tracks once a day until Sept. 20.

Since the streetcar fleet offering a “refreshing beer” debuted more than 20 years ago, the service has grown in popularity, prompting the firm to extend the run by 20 days.

But this year’s rides are fully booked and the other hopefuls must be put on a waiting list. The service began July 4 and runs daily except for Sundays, public holidays and selected dates in the Bon holidays on Aug. 9 and from Aug. 13 to 16.

“I enjoyed sipping beer while being swung over the tracks along the road. It made me feel like I was on a real trip,” said Nagasaki businessman Koichi Nakamura, 54.

“I’m looking forward to another ride next year.”
