TTC: Other Items (catch all)

It will be nice to see New Flyers back in the city. I remeber the old New Flyer D40LF's being some of my favorite buses in the city alongside the Orion V's. Its a shame we never went full bore with the D40LF's since from what I have heard they were superior to the Orion VI's and VII's. Sucks that in the latter years they all got relegated to Queensway Yard so I only ever got to see them the one time a year I am out in the west end.

Also great to see that Nova isnt included either since the orders are coming via exercised options; the last thing we need is a 100% NovaBus fleet.

In fairness, the reason that Nova wasn't included in this test is that they don't - at least as of yet - offer an all electric bus with "all day" range. The only version they offer is a short-range version that needs to be charged at each end of the line, and the TTC isn't interested in that technology.

I find the CEO Reports to be very technical under O'Leary compared to Byford. There is less information, less detail and anything in the report requires pre-existing knowledge to read through.

For example: There used to be more graphs with Byford, more stuff you could understand even if you are a total idiot.

TTC ordered an additional 10 NF electric buses, bringing their total order to 20 NF buses.

The Agenda, with Steve Paikin, just up.
The Better Way to Run the TTC

Matlow in the past can be a bit irksome when it comes to things like SSE. But with this he's the only person calling a spade a spade and who can see through a hazy cloud of bs. Uploading the subway doesn't build subway lines, doesn't integrate fares, doesn't expedite construction, doesn't remove politics. It's just a convoluted process, seemingly borderline illegal, and it still ultimately boils down to money. Which even the most transit-friendly Prov gov't in decades (McGuinty/Wynne) were still thrifty on. And politics? Doesn't matter who's running things QP is waaay more political, shadowy, and meddling than Toronto City council could ever be.

Steve Munro reports the whole King/Queen/Roncesvalles intersection work has been deferred to 2020.
That's going to cause some interesting fleet planning and Flexity deployment issues.
I imagine this also means the start date of some other track project will be brought forward to 2019 from 2020, or something in 2020 will now have to be deferred to 2021, etc...

A normal situation these days. Defer, defer, defer, all to "save" money. lol (Actually, not funny.)

Speaking of which, a rumour is really going around about the status of the CLRVs and ALRVs. They may might not get VISION installed after all. Is it the end as we know it for the streetcars that saved streetcars in Toronto??

I was just at Museum heading Southbound and noticed ATC beacons on the Wye track.

You can distinguish the tracks based on their trajectory and grade differential. Are they making the Wye ATC operated?
