TTC: Other Items (catch all)

A small item, which may have been mentioned by someone earlier, my apologies if I missed it......

I have noted a system-wide push to install more of the TV/Info-screens on platforms.

They appear to moving to have at least one per entrance/exit to/from the platform.

I noted something else when exiting at Osgoode the other day, they have shifted the location of the screens from trackside, to under the low ceilings in the centre of the platform.

And people will still sell tokens on Marketplace for $1.00 - $2.00, and warn that use will end on June 1st. They're souvenirs at this point.
I swear Presto was supposed to replace everything else (except cash) back in 2019? Metropasses ended at the end of 2018 and IMO are more souvenir-worthy. Turns out pretty much all other fare media were still in use this whole time, so basically aside from Presto being phased in nothing else changed (until now)?

It is reported there were requests to delay from agencies and charities that as of the end of last year still had large stocks of tokens and tickets to give out to their clients.
Likely, the massive drop in transit use in 2020 meant they didn't use them up as quickly as expected. The agencies also didn't want a refund as they didn't want the hassle of turning them in at Davisville and then also having staff handle large quantities of cash refunded for them.

I think part of the reasons for shifting some of the locations of them at least on line 1 has to do with the cameras that are used by the drivers to see the platform from the screen in the cabs.

Also I've noticed in a lot of line 2 stations where they only had one location they now have a second one as well with the new updated ones.

TTC did not want to refund any money at all for tokens as they saw it as a cash cow to them. Those who turn 65 who had tokens were forced to take senior tickets that require them to travel more than normal. It was 2 tokens = 3 tickets exchange

I got a few tokens that will never be used that I found in a drawer that I rarely used early this year

I've come across 6 tokens in the last month or so - and getting rid of them has been a challenge. Not so much because I don't use TTC enough - but as I work from home, most of my trips are connected to another trip in less than 2 hours, or connects to GO. So hitting a trip where I can use them is a bit of an art.

I better look deeply around tomorrow to see if I missed any - I think I have one more chance to use one! (which means I'll find 2).

Too bad Metrolinx takes a cut of Presto transactions. The proper way should have been to offer token to Presto credit conversion. Techincally it does not cost them anything extra to offer that option. Token is prepaid fare.

I think you meant to reply to @drum118 haha.

I don’t have TTC tokens but I have crumpled paper HSR tickets if anyone’s interested ;)

It’s be a decade since the roll out of presto. People should have seen this coming. TTC did give a lot of time and this whole work from home thing wasn’t their fault either.
I think only very few are against ending tokens/tickets use. However, the transition process could have been improved upon.
It is not easy to use up the tokens because even before the onefare program, physical fare media use provides less flexibility. You can't use unstaffed entrance. You can only make one continuous trip.

People should expect they will expire.

TTC warns the revenue when you buy the tokens not when you use them. TTC doesn’t have the budget for collecting tokens and loading people’s presto cards.

Some inflation has gone up in a decade. The cost offer the rides has also gone up significantly. The actual cost of the token might not have gone up that much but the cost to move people around sure did. So it’s definitely a lost convert token to today’s adult fare value.

The word is TTC has started to remove poles from the fleet with 9 cars having their poles remove so far and long over due. There are a few locations that need to be upgraded, but they are out of service until 2031 along reinstalling the close Queen St area. Took TTC a long time to get things done and a fair number of tears late.

Will TTC instruct TB not to ship the remaining 13 cars with poles as 4650 has its pole. It will be off loaded Monday as the car that will be use to pull it off the flat is sitting at Hillcrest now.

Not sure if anyone has posted this before but one escalator at Hwy 407 station has been permanently removed, which looks pretty dumb. When did this happen?? Lol

It’s been like this since opening date, seems like an intentional design in rendering stages but I’m not too sure why theres a metal floor plate there. Here’s a render from 2015.
