Haven't been following this thread, so, a little late with a reply. Being an occasional gambler and having visited Las Vegas during the 80s and 90s, it would've been fantastic if they had incorporated those neon signs of that era. It would've been amazing to see something like the Stardust, Flamingo, The Dunes and many other of those old casino's signs festooning the exterior here. If they had done that, it might've in itself been a tourist draw for those old time nostalgic gamblers of yesteryear!
What's interesting is that the mid-80s subdivides two of the different eras of The Strip, both of which largely post-date the earlier 'Pop City', neon-era you describe. If interested, this book is highly recommended: https://www.stefanal.com/the-strip

Yes, I do love me some neon. It would be really Instagrammable too, and I mean, isn't that what's most important these days? lol

Looks like woodbine is ready to lease its retail space soon:

I'm not sure what retail stores/ restaurant chains will move in. Most big restaurants chains already have location near rexdale by the airport or Woodbridge. And I don't see there being high demand for retail such as clothing. My guess is it will take some time before we see anything move in.

These street names are just laughable, could they not have come up with anything better?

-Dance Smartly Blvd?

-Glorious Song Way?

I mean really now??
All named after famous thoroughbreds! I think very appropriate!

The former Greenwood Raceway, now a residential hood, has already claimed Northern Dancer, the famed Canadian-bred Kentucky Derby winner.

I remember part of the deal for the development of the casino in rexdale was for the casino to open a 24 hour childcare centre. There has not been any announcement of a new childcare centre. Is that still happening ?

Who designed that monster of a building? You can't tell me that is what they hope brings in crowds. Lost opportunity on that casino, that designer should be embarrased.

From Toronto's New Deal Agreement:

Advancing Transit-Oriented Communities by prioritizing approvals and finalization of agreements for the development of East Harbour; and cooperation and collaboration from the city on a proposal for mixed-use Transit-Oriented Communities at the future Woodbine GO Station.

Spa! Spa! Spa!

(I don’t think most people are opposed to the spa per se, just opposed to the spa being at Ontario Place. From what I can see in the renderings, you can’t really even see the Toronto skyline from inside anyway. Then again, they could have thought of this, but Great Canadian/OLG opposes for some reason.)

I'm just mystified by this development. Who will shop at this retail? There's a lot of retail space at Woodbine Mall and along Highway 27, and I can't see how this space would be more appealing to people.
I live in the area, I'm excited to see what opens in terms of restaurants. I don't step foot in Woodbine since it's a dead mall. I guess they are assuming folks gambling will shop.
