Toronto Warden Station Redevelopment | 13.11m | 2s | TTC | SAI

Finally, in narrower terms, looking at the discussion by @turini2 ; You have lots of complex issues with being more ambitious; budget is among them for everyone. Building over another asset adds costs to asset number one, whose paying? The lawyers need to sort out strata issues. (The TTC still owns the bus terminal, but would now share certain infrastructure in common with any building over the top........that does make for complications.

To be clear, I'm all in favour of more civic ambition, but it requires the budget, staff hired for ambition, and who are encouraged to be bold and excel, and it requires lead time, lots of it. It can and should be done.........but it often isn't.
Oh yeah, it's just disappointing when this happens. Same with the "unwillingness to spend a little extra money now to save money in the future" and when value engineering goes too far...

@Paclo this one's status should be 'under construction'.

Not much evidence of work inside except for hoarding, both for the back side of the photo above, and where the elevators are going from platform to concourse.

There was this work on the platform itself, not sure what this was about......

*UPDATE*

The Dry Cleaner is now closing as well.

No signs up yet but I suspect that Bakery and Cafe on the go will also close soon.

As a regular user of Warden Station I'm dreading the construction.

I spoke with Arjun Sahota of the TTC who mentioned the PPUDO vehicular access via St Clair Avenue East will remain closed until 2027.

I believe it has to do with rolling closures making reopening it impractical.

I remember watching them pull down the roof of Bay 1 at Victoria Park from Albion Avenue. It will be a tedious process to say the least.

In the '80s I used to work on Birchmount road, and I transited this station every day for work and one of my fond memories was a little bakery above the bus bays that served fresh croissants right out of the oven every morning. They were so good! Warm, flaky, buttery and inexpensive, and I would usually buy two to bring to the office to have with my coffee.

The other thing I recall is the bus bays had flashing lights to indicate if your bus was at the platform and a remember running through the terminal when I saw the sign for route 17 flashing and, making a mad dash down the stairs to the bus.

Back in those days there was a sizeable shopping mall due north of the station across St. Clair that was accessible by a foot bridge and on my way home it was a convenient place to shop. It had a Hudson Bay as an anchor store and a food court to pick up my supper meal.

Tomorrow morning is going to be a s***show.

As it stands now, buses are making a left turn from Warden into the Bus Platforms. There is no controlled intersection, just a turning lane.

It was not so bad today but in the middle of the rush hour with full blown traffic, I can see a myriad of issues with buses waiting to make the turn.

What I don't understand is why a traffic light was never put in at the entrance to the bus platforms to assist with access for buses. I have a feeling that when they see how much a mess things become they will put in a temporary light.

Maybe the TTC thinks it will be cheaper to get paid duty TPS officers there all day, rather than installing a signal? (I do agree that this seems short-sighted)

In the 80s I was in Elementary school, LOL

Warden Woods.........

The Bay was originally a Simpson's.......probably would have had that banner for most/all of the 80s.

There was a Dominion supermarket on the upper level (Today's Metro chain).

An 8-screen Cineplex with those regrettable tiny little boxes passes off as cinemas.

A Classic Bookshop, and I think a W.H.Smith as well.....
