General Notice - Union Station Revitalization Project - 2010 to 2015

Vanbots, a division of Carillion Construction Inc., has been selected by the City of Toronto as the General Contractor/Construction Manager to undertake the Union Station Revitalization Project. Vanbots, as the general contractor for the Project, will seek subcontracts with trades including, as and when appropriate, through the establishment of a pre-qualified roster for various trades required throughout the Project. Further pre-qualification and/or subcontract opportunities may be offered from time to time by Vanbots in the Daily Commercial News (DCN), on MERX, and any other means as may be determined by Vanbots. Vanbots reserves the right to only solicit bids from the pre-qualified trade roster, as applicable.

Please note that subcontract opportunities will only be advertised by Vanbots, and will not be advertised on the City of Toronto Call Document website.

Looks like the second platform for the subway station will actually start this year - the tender is up here http://www2.ttc.ca/docs/Bidlist/T11PN09868.html

Interesting to see Vanbots/Carillion are potential bidders themselves. They'd certainly be able to make a strong case that having the same folks doing the renovation of Union Station proper and the adjacent subway station could smoothen things out.

It would work perfectly, if they do both works, they can coordinate better. But the TTC wouldn't care too much about that, they'll care about the bid that they make.

This would be such an amazing location for another spectacular Calatrava-style masterpiece. Imagine a huuuge galleria train shed here.

That was decided December 2nd. The tender referred to above is for the subway station and not the train station which are separate projects. There are three projects at Union station: the TTC subway station second platform project, the GO Transit trainshed project, and the City of Toronto Union Station revitalization project. Vanbots won the City of Toronto bid, the TTC tender is above with four companies bidding, and I forget who won the trainshed project.

There is a good chance they could offer a lower bid simply because equipment and manpower will already be on location.

AECON is doing the train shed.
