I agree that this is, realistically, close enough to a sure thing eventually, but I'm skeptical of even that 2021-2023 date (which is for funding, let alone construction, let alone opening...) given council's love for throwing money away and hate for spending reasonable sums on much-needed infrastructure improvements.

I noticed today that they are getting ready to pour concrete on 'floor' of the north side of the York moat - under the Front Street sidewalk and they are rebuilding the stone-faced pillars there. I suspect it will not be too much longer before they open the York moat - which would provide another route from TTC to the York concourse.

I think that's actually called the Front St Moat--the York St moat is the one that runs from the NW PATH to the York East Teamway, Bay moat runs from the Brookfield Place-TTC entrance to the Bay West Teamway.

That said, I have difficulty keeping track of the various moat and promenade names myself

I am not changing my view from if to when.....this is the sort of small project that makes a real difference in the daily lives of a fair number of people.....but we are a city/region hooked on mega projects and that is all we focus on .....I will wait until it is actually being worked on to change the if to when.

Is it just me or is work on the east moat progessing a breakneck pace?

They are also making good progress on installing new (gyproc) ceilings in the VIA concourse and last week they took away the original hanging light fixture over the VIA ramp for fixin' up.

It IS moving on well but it actually only needs to be excavated about 8 feet and the main drain extended into it. I suspect it wil be finished off in next coupke of months but I am sure that reopening it into Union will take several more months (fall?) as they need to finish the Bay concourse excavation inside Union. It is good to see progress in areas that we can actually See!

Moving a lot faster than before, but a hell a lot of work to be done inside. The current entrance is temporary as well the stairs. New stairs and escalators will be install next year.

I've heard that the lower level of the York concourse has been delayed on account of water penetration and persistent leaks. It seems like they are having trouble with the expansion joints in the trackbed slab... To be honest instead of taking remedial action and doing waterproofing work, it sounds like the opening date has now just been pushed back until the trainshed roof is done. The problem I see with this plan of action is that the trainshed roof (the refurbished part) is massively behind schedule and is now itself rumored to have been placed on hold until the overhead clearance issues have been sorted for GO electrification..

Oh and also... while I am in a ranting kind of mood:
What is going on in the VIA departures area. Jesus christ. If you look at Katia Osokine's picture below you'll see that currently travelers to Toronto Union have been getting the full "eastern-bloc" treatment. Only in Toronto is this an acceptable standard. I can only imagine what a horrific experience it must be waiting for a train these days... I've seen more welcoming prisons. I just can't believe this area is open to the public.
